Real Captain America Shield That Actually Bounces Back! - OVER 100 FT BOUNCE!!!

Here's how I made a real Captain America shield that actually flies and bounces back. It's made of carbon fiber with a fiberglass ring to provide bounce while keeping maximum strength. The shield magnetically connects to the users wrist and can be thrown overhand like Captain America.

Thanks to @allenpan for the extreme levels of salt in this video.

Welcome to the cap club! Couldn't have done better myself, I never imagined a bouncing shield would work that well! Definitely a potential real product, you should try and partner with Disney to make them!

This is a great example of conservation of energy, in a system not wanting to be lossy upon impact. It's hard to maintain inherent kinetic energy with something so thin, but by god I believe your solution is great. Nice work Jake.

I love how you explain the physics behind everything! A real engineer.

THIS is how it's done!! Thoroughly enjoyed this video, from concept to fabrication!

This is by far your most movie accurate build ever. Very impressed. This may be your finest video

As an engineer I have to say this is your best video to date! I like that you cover your entire process and your development skills have been improving with every subsequent video. I would have approached the problem differently but your solution is much more polished than your other videos. I watch your videos to my toddler, so we can discuss your approach and introduce him to STEM. Kudos on the design work, I am sure people would be interested in both of those as products. Great job, keep it up!

MCU shield: that doesn't obey the laws of physics at all

Jlaser's shield: that obeys the laws of physics

Three things: One, dope build. Two, of course we need "spring rings", anyone saying otherwise is wrong. Three, classiest and most constructive resolution to internet beef EVER. Keep up the awesome.

This is just as impressive as JLaser's more technical builds, IMO. His disciplined approach to the physics, not leaning on electronics for any part of this, is extremely impressive. It would be too easy to slap some swiss cheese on a drone and say "the movie thing flies, and mine does too. They're the same!", but JLaser actually made something that acts just like the shield on screen. And he did it by getting to the root of the physics. Top tier stuff!

@1:10 that’s literally it. The super soldier serum allows Cap to think faster (and see bullets after they’re already fired and heading towards him) so he really does just do these equations in his head with every throw.

Dude this is such a good marketable products, you should sell it and produce it

I love the hacksmith, but sometimes since they’re so professional they don’t have many failed attempts on stuff, but seeing the trial and error for J, just so much more interesting to watch the actual build rather than just skipping to the final product

As a MASSIVE Cap fan, I think this is the coolest shield project on this site.

Loved seeing the problem-solving process on the oscillations and getting the shield to bounce. Great stuff as always

I was so skeptical when I clicked on this. But, this was awesome, and I really want one!

Is noone gonna talk about how fricking smart and genius this is, and people demand more, i mean they're not wrong, this is absolute quality content

I love how you show the entire process with trial & error rather than just showing a recipe and skipping to the final product. This is definitely one of the coolest builds ever, I never thought I would see a real life bouncing Cap shield that functions smoothly...but here we are.

This is honestly one of the best "made in real life" projects ever.

When I have nothing to do, I come do this guys vids, he teaches me and inspires me to do many things. I try to act like I know what he’s saying, but now I feel like hes taught me so much.

The "Captain America is just a geometry whiz who can calculate angles perfectly in a split-second" explanation is pretty much spot-on correct. It's mentioned in the movies (and the comics) that the Super-Soldier Serum basically made Cap into what Steve Rogers imagined the perfect soldier to be. So his grasp of tactics and strategy, his reaction time, and his awareness of his environment are enhanced every bit as much as his muscles, skeleton, and metabolism. You can see the seed of what the Serum enhances already present in Steve, though: in the scene where everyone else tries to scramble up the flagpole to grab the flag (getting a ride instead of a hike back to base as a reward), Steve susses out that he can just remove the lynch pin and the pole will fall over, allowing him to pick the flag up off the ground. So the basic ability to figure out efficient tactics and calculate angles on the fly was there, the Serum just cranked it up to 11.
