as a child, i always viewed this song as really badass and epic, which it is, but as an adult and listening to the lyrics, i’ve grown to appreciate what they mean. learning from our mistakes and our past, when we can’t outrun them anymore

The thing I love most about this game is that Shadow wasn't even a true bad guy. The only reason he went on the revenge path was because he was convinced Maria wanted him too. He loved her so much, he was just as willing to cast it all aside as soon as he realized she didn't want that at all. Imagine loving someone that much, that you're just willing to throw it all away for their happiness. Selfless love. That is the mark of a true hero.

On a personal level the song talks about living your life and leaned from your past failures and pushing forward in spite of the fact that “you may never find your way” nothing is guaranteed, nothing is promised. If you want the tomorrow you dream of, “hold on to what if” and live and learn.
Whenever I hit that low point in my life this song always gives me perspective that I need to get up and get moving NO ONE is going to do it for me!

I’m picturing it now the 3rd sonic movie is sonic adventure 2 based and when they final fight starts and sonic and shadow go super this song starts and the crowd in the theater goes wild.

I love how the phrase "When you can't help but follow" at 0:51 is portrayed. It's a nice callback to when Tails wanted to be more than he already was in SA1, and is the one doing most of the work in SA2.
