As a kid growing up in South Fla. I was always taught, "if u cant see the bottom of a body of water ie Lake, canal, etc, assume it has agators in it".. proceed with extreme caution...

Grandparents: we had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get to school. Floridakids: we had to dodge ole snaggletooth both ways to get to school.

IT US NOT JUST CENTRAL So while these are "tourist" attractions they are all over the state of Florida. Please be aware & safe. Yes, pay attention to the signs posted.

I can vouch for Lake Jessup. I stopped fishing up there because I was running into so many gators while fishing. It just got annoying and dangerous.

Lake Jessup, Seminole County... It was the Gator nuisance dumping location for most of Central Florida.

Lake Jessup (NE of Orlando), and connected to the St. John's river, claims to have the "highest concentration" of alligators in Florida. There a LOT of gators in Lake Jessup. When I fish there, it is hard to find a place where you can't see several gators at any one time. On some of the little mud flats there will be literally dozens of them sunning themselves, especially smaller ones...4-6 feet. They even swim up and get close to the boat. I think they're waiting to get some "handouts" when fisherman clean their catch.
There is an island, almost in the center of the lake, in sight of the tollway, that is called "bird island". The gators just hang out around that island during nesting season, hoping to munch a baby bird trying to learn to fly but falling in the lake.
Lake Myakka, east of Sarasota has a lot of gators also. Actually ALL the lakes have gators. I have not seen any lakes without gators yet, and I get around to a lot of them when fishing.

For almost 30 years, we vacationed in Hilton Head. The place and pool was not more than 20 feet from the lagoon... as a very young child, I had nightmares about alligators coming in the pool while we were swimming. There was no fence.

(All) of them, take a leisurely stroll near the water's edge and your dog is a snack and you are a dinner meal.

Best group of reporters and new anchors Ive ever seen. Mosr professional and the reporter in the field was awesome. She didnt talk 90 miles and hour and let other people talk without interrupting them.

When I was 17 years old we used to go play out in the Everglades in SouthFlorida there was a long straight drainage canal that always had a lot of Alligators sunning themselves on one side of the canal someone dared me to Slolom ski down the canal and the only way I could figure out how to do it was getting pulled by a car on the dirt road adjacent to the canal the tricky part was the car could only pull me one way and I would have to get out of the ski grab it and run up the steep bank without falling to get away from all those Alligators I’m guessing there was at least 75 of them well I’m 57 years old writing this so obviously I made it my freinds all said I wasa crazy guy when we were young but I was fun to be around ! I still have the 1978 Kidder Slolum ski that was state of the art for the time Fiberglass with a Aluminum skin top to give the ski the correct amount of flex I later found another Ski similar to that one that had a Wood Veneer applied to the Aluminum and it was appraised at over 1000.00 dollars

I'm guessing Lake Okeechobee since it's the largest lake in Florida. I sure don't want to do a census count.

That’s why I would never advertise Florida as a paradise of “outdoor activities”. I was brought up in New England where you can go in ANY lake, pond, river or stream without fear of alligators or poisonous snakes. In Florida I limit my outdoor activity to theme parks and swimming pools, period!

They look scary and their power is something to respect. I can't help but respect the people that are able to get close to these beasts and treat them as a domesticated animal. The way he said "come here turnpike" was so heartwarming and the gator didn't look as ferocious. There definitely needs to be more education on alligators apart from a sign that says caution.
