I think of conservatism as an ideological interest in conserving tradition, culture and religion, so conservatives tend to be people who proudly subscribe to dogma and who are perpetually scared of change.

I would argue that the problem is conservatism, much like liberalism, is a victim of big tent policies. That's why conservatism doesn't seem to stand for anything, because it has to juggle so many different types of conservatives at once.

its funny because i once considered myself to be a conservative just because i didnt want to be associated with SJWs on the liberal side, but you've taught me to separate myself from that, and to be a person who can accept being free to express yourself however you want to, no matter who you are, while also acknowledging that SJWs take things too far and make everything very authoritarian aswell. id rather just let any individual be who they want to be, no matter how much i like or hate them for it. im not gonna go out of my way to tell anyone they CANNOT do something because i disagree with it unless they are physically harming someone else for their beliefs. i definitely do not consider myself to be conservative today.

The only point I feel needs to be added is that the Politicians are not the only Conservatives in favor of policies benefitting the rich. Most lay Conservatives are as well, even though these policies don't benefit them at all. They like to cheer for the rich while ignoring the poor.

I talked to someone once that claimed to be an "open minded conservative". They insisted it's a thing. It's as simple as dropping the conservative tag and just living their life but they can't. Like "religious" ppl that also bang hookers and do drugs and swear. They just can't get rid of the religious tag in their life so they insist it's possible to have both.

I think you forgot to mention the common idea among most conservative ideologues that everyone has an innate ability to be successful, regardless of they’re living situation, history, or any other factor. Therefore there is no excuse to be poor, it’s merely based on the fact that “you didn’t try hard enough.”Something I’m sure you agree with TJ but I could be wrong.
