This is exactly what I was thinking about today, which engine I should commit to in the end. Since approx. I've been learning Unity for a year, it's become a very nice engine for me. After the outrage, of course I also looked at alternatives. Many people recommend Godot, but for me the Flax engine is more similar to Unity, regardless of the fact that it is not as advanced yet. However, today I realized exactly how important it is for me to learn an engine that is the easiest to learn and has the largest community and tutorial base. Now that I see that there are good alternatives, I can relax more calmly and continue learning Unity, because it is true that if I had a ready-made Indie game that, in the worst case, I really have to port from Unity to another engine, then I have more skills will be in all areas, and I can look for solutions to problems in a targeted way. I think that if Unity really dies, by then the other engines will be at an appropriate level of development, and most importantly, the community and tutorials will be available in greater numbers. For now, I think I'll stay with Unity, because I didn't choose the engine itself because of 2D, but because I want to target the 3D world in the simplest possible way. And if I play an Indie game that I like, which was most likely made with Unity, and I like a feature in it, then I can probably easily reproduce it only in Unity, because I can only find an accessible and easy-to-understand tutorial for this engine.

Nice video! I started coding in Unity, but with the controversy I started thinking of other options for game making. Your video helped me out a lot :)

godot isn’t actually new, it’s been around for a long time, but godot 4 in specific is new and a big improvement

Its the fastest engine to prototype a new game, so yes. Even if you learn unreal engine its very useful to know unity to prototype the project first. Nothing is worse than writing a full game in blueprints only to code it in C# and realize the mistakes you've made. It may also depend on your personal workflow, but any engine is worth learning.

If you are able to make your game in godot you don't have to pay any one to sell the game. Granted before you have to pay unity or unreal you have to make quite a bit. But godot you never have to pay for using the engine.

Honestly, if you're looking into gamedev as a career, I do DIScourage you to look into those "other game engines". Finding a job even as a Unity dev is somewhat challenging, finding one with some niche engine that barely any studio uses might be sheer hell. On the other hand, starting your own studio as an indie, you will face the exact opposite problem: it's also tricky to hire anyone because of just how few people know the engine you're using.

Hello! I have a question, I’m not sure if you know the answer but anything helps. I am selling games on fiverr for some time now and some of them got posted by the buyers.. will I have to pay that fee even though I didn’t post the game, but I made it?

Unreal is the best. It's all the matter of learning and get used to the engine. "Beginner friendly" does not matter in such an unforgiving, complicate industry that require high level of professionalism, discipline and commitment. Unreal is also open source, mean you can push your skill further than just use what's provided. Even if you stop being an indie dev, if you are good at Unreal then there's always a solid job market thanks to AAA studios overwhelmingly favor Unreal.

Your question is wrong. By the time the next American CEO goes crazy, you'll have your answer. I've already found mine.

I’m using Unity. I tend to just disregard the mass hysteria that takes over the internet sometimes. They’ve already remedied the problems people were complaining about. People in the internet hear one thing and then adopt that as a religion moving forward. Orange man bad. Unity bad.
Godot is just not there yet and if you want to use it, good luck. You’re gonna have to build almost everything yourself.

99.9% of people would never be affected. I have come back to Unity because of the baby outrage (Last time using unity was in 2015, my desktop was ancient for the time, so load times sucked so I had to move to another engine). The mass droves of drones that came to Godot and GameMaker calling themselves "Unity refugees" was beyond annoying. I am happy to be back with unity.

So what you are saying is : Spend years learning engine you don't use, in order to have bit easier start when you start learning engine you do plan to use.
I have different idea. Why not cut year of learning engine you don't use and start with engine you do plan to use. How about that ?
