I'm with others who say that the Motherflame is a power source, but I think it's also the bomb like Artur says. It would be very Oda to highlight how nuclear energy can be an incredible clean energy source *and* a devastating weapon.

I assumed that what Vegapunk created wasn't a weapon in itself, but a form of energy source. Like what we saw vaporize lulusia was indeed one of the ancient weapons owned and commaded by Imu, but similar to the iron giant that run out of power, the ancient weapon was in a similar situation, the WGO did have it, but it was out of batteries. Perhaps it required a energy source that was unavailable to them up until now and Imu was only able to use recently because Vegapunk created something that could power it. From what i can tell, its like a one use battery, so they still need the Mother flame to be manefactured in order for the ancient weapon to be used as Imu pleases.

I believe the reason why attacked of what becomes Enies Lobby is that we know that IMU in ancient times was known as St. Imu of Nerona I believe that IMU destroyed their homeland so that IMU could not have any challengers to the throne and anyone that could succeed him as heirs to the throne. The reason why I say this is that Water 7 is based of Venice and Nerona Im's family name is a reference to Verona another city in Italy.

Some see the rise as an annoyance like the okama. Some think its nice for fishing looking at the positives even though their house got flooded. Others don't see it like the celestial dragons who are above everything and the last group lost everything to this event. It's amazing world building and shows a lot without saying much.

The Mother Flame is more likely to be an energy source. It's likely Vegapunk's version of the neverending flame that he's trying to recreate.

Keep in mind that Vegapunk doesn't like making weapons directly so it would need a more indirect way of connecting to him. That's why the energy source also makes more sense to his character.

instead of using UFO to visualize ancient weapon (motherflame) you can use laputa's floating castle (from laputa - castle in the sky movie)
cause as oda is so heavily inspired from this movie motherflame is the first similar looking structure shown in one piece, and that castle's ancient power source can also create similar massive explosions
this movie really has so many similarities to one piece's plot (like ancient language ancient robots like the one on egghead etc). The movie is must watch its beautiful

I have always associated “enies” to the welsh word for island “ynys”. Ynys lobby would be lobby island, which makes sense since it leads to marineford and impel down. Check the definition of lobby. If we think of it in the context of an elevator lobby, it could also mean that there is a path from lobby island to get to whats above (artificial sun) or whats below (i cant believe no one has ever wondered what the frick is going on in that hole).

There is a more simple answer, the Mother Flame is an energy source for Uranus not the best source but it can atleast fire it once. And Enies Lobby, the island of justice, is the grave of the Ancient Kingdom as poetic Justice. Imu has been alive since void century and obtained and has held Uranus this whole time but had no power source. I think the true power source lies within the power of the Sun god abilities making Luffy the champion of Uranus.

i think whatever used to be where Enies Lobby is now, could've been some kind of ancient technology that was connected to Water 7.
What I find mysterious about Water 7 are these things that are stuck on all the roofs on the island. They remind me of lightning rods. And IF that part about the ancient greek translation was true, and the island used to be some kind of place for ancient ships.. it makes me think of the Skypeans and their head-antenna that have a very similar shape to the lightning rods on the Water 7 roofs. And lightning rods in combination with "ancient ships" makes me think of the Ark Maxim that was powered by lightning! Maybe Enies Lobby used to be a "doc" for SPACE SHIPS that people could use to travel to the moons for example. Or a place where space-ships or air-ships were build.
And maybe the lightning rods at Water 7 were used to collect electric power to fuel those ships? OR they were used as a defense mechanism AGAINST lightning based "attacks"?
