One of the best songs ever written and performed. It is about someone living through a difficult time in their lives and how they persevere to get through it with someone who will be there for them through thick or thin. They would lay their body down for the person to cross if need be, to get them to a good place in their life, just like a bridge leads you over troubled water to get you to the other side.

In 1979 when I was a JR in high school my best friend's sister was murdered. They played this song at her funeral. She was buried in a silver colored coffin and when that line "Sail on silver girl..." was played it was a real gut punch. Her name was Linda and she was one of the nicest girls you could ever hope to meet. Her killer was never caught. RIP Silver Girl, RIP.

Beyond Art Garfunkel's amazing vocals - Larry Knechtel's piano performance on this absolutely slays. Just exudes feeling, crests and falls, breathes and cries. It seems to mirror the emotion of the vocals. This is how expressive piano should be.
