Mainstream Christianity says hell is everlasting, and there is no escape or rescue for its inhabitants. That's not quite what God said.

Fear not folks. This lake of fire is a symbol of the process to overcome the second death of the non-believers. To test, refine, and purify until perfection, in the presence of the Lamb. Not for ever and ever, but from one age to the next, a period of time. • For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that his banished ones are not expelled from Him. (2 Samuel 14:14)

This is one of my favorites of your videos so far but all of them are great! My favorite line of yours in this video is, "Just play along."
Pure gold as usual, Wes! That's a great tactic to ask which hell to people, when they say go to hell. I may have to try that as well. Sometimes confusion can be a strong catalyst for learning.

It also helps to know that, while this does take place at the consummation of the eons, “the consummation” mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:24 is actually referring to the final group of people to be vivified (it literally means “then everyone else”), with the rest of the sentence explaining when they’ll be vivified.

When people appeal to tradition, I point to what Jesus said to the Pharisees about the traditions of men! I have found that all 3 views existed with the early church fathers. Annihilation was the most common. It wasn't until Augustine, in the 5th century, that eternal conscious torment became the main view. The reforemers based a lot of their theology on Augustine. This includes another tradition, known as TULIP (or Calvinism).

Hey brother Wes,
I like the refreshing outlook you presented.
I personally have an amillenial perspective and thus view Revelation 20 as fulfilling now, with us being kings and priests with Christ already. (Rev 1, 5-6 John says they were made to be kings and priests, past not future. Therefore I think the 1, 000 years are already happening.)
Jerusalem in this view has already come down from heaven. And by preaching the gospel we invite all to enter the Holy City.
I believe people stand before the judgment throne already being judged by their deeds. Interestingly it is said the dead are being judged, not the living. They can come to life only by acknowledging Jesus, which resembles the second death which they have to undergo to live again.
Coming to life (in greek not the term for resurrection in Rev 20, 4) means to die for sin and being raised with Christ I think, as Romans 6 explains. Those who have part in this first resurrection cannot be affected by the second death, because I think this describes the exact same process, one dies for sin and this happens only once.
God bless you,
Thomas

Gehenna was quite repulsive to the Jews, as seen by this (as MZ would say) throw-away line, found in John 19:40.
They got the body of Jesus, then, and they bind it in swathings with spices, ACCORDING AS THE CUSTOM OF THE JEWS IS TO BURY.

To bury a corpse was as common as attending a festival. Even the "baddies" were buried.

Excellent, and entertaining presentation, Wes.
