A big part in play is what class the player chooses (if any) as that will decide what kind of armor and weapons they will go for and use. Terraria has a ton of items that will go completely missed for a long time mainly because of their rarity, what drops them, and what they do and if it's worth going for it. This also does leave items that are really good but are left out due to their lack of easy obtainability.

(Fun fact, Lepus in prehardmode dropped souls of might with a 1-2% chance, for... Uh, some reason? Probably item ID mistake, but eh, couldn't do anything with them at that point anyways)
