This guy knows a lot. And definitely one of the best teachers to follow and learn from. Love it!

Great video Josh. I'm a fan of many of your videos.

My one suggestion for a project like this is to unbox all components on your workbench, and connect everything together and test everything FIRST before installing anything. Make sure all cables work, that all cameras work, and that the NVR works before you climb up a ladder or run any cables. Finding out there's a bad cable after snaking it through your crawl space and foaming up the wall hole, or finding out you have a broken camera after you've mounted and siliconed it to the soffit, makes things so much harder than it needs to be. Once you know everything works, then install it.

EDIT: one other thought I had - if you know in advance that you're going to put your NVR in that closet and the path you'll use for running wireless, you can install a PVC conduit inside the wall which makes fishing the wires through the wall cavity a lot easier. Especially if you're gonna add more wires/cameras later. This also applies to scenarios for regular network wires/components, not just for camera systems.

Really nice security camera setup. I like the POE install as someone with a WiFi blocker can’t shut down your system. With POE you also don’t need to add a power transformer to every camera. I like your pros & cons, an agree with you assessment! I think you made the cable install look too easy, so most people need to understand that fishing all these locations are very difficult & would probably need to hire a pro, at I’d imagine a hefty cost, to install the cameras.

It was an excellent overview of setting up your camera surveillance, but I would've labeled all the cables inside the attic if, in the event, one specific camera stopped working. In other words, I can trace it more efficiently.

Great Video! Another method for wiring cameras to an NVR is running all the cameras into a POE Network switch and then running a sing Network cable to the NVR itself.

Well, this is something I have never had to do and this was a very interesting install. We never had a use to have security cameras in our area personally and customers usually did their own or had a company do it or use wireless units.
You sure did get your exercise on some of the areas yourself. I will say one I have used in the situation filling the holes using fire resistant spray foam which is what I use when needed.
Great install for sure along with the low voltage covers etc. Being set up for this system was well thought through. My brother-in-law at a cabinet company has a similar system which actually notifies him and a few other employees if motion is detected and he can look at what is going on even if he is on vacation. The clarity is amazing as well.
Great job Josh 🔨👍🏻

Great video! Was planning to do this for my home but all the cables having to run through it was too much work. I opted for some wireless cameras but if I could do it all over again, the PoE would definitely be better.

Good choice of Cat6 shielded. At first I thought it was coax.

Finally beat you to one project! Just did my first PoE install a few weekends ago. I bought more cable than I needed haha. Great video as always!

3 years ago I bought a standard wired system. I didn't realize how much trouble I'd have with my hip roof truss attic so I looked into solar battery powered cameras, which require a subscription to unlock all features and provide minimal quality otherwise. Even if I can get $75 for the 3 year old system still in the box and buy a POE system I'll be ahead of the game. Will still be a challenge running Cat5e but much better than video and power cable. Wall jacks are plentiful and will pretty up the job. Not so for 12v 2.1mm power jacks.

Nice job on your installation technique. We learned a lot!
However, this is a "paid" advertisement for ONWOTE meant to possibly lure someone to consider purchase. It should.
But, buyers beware! Reading the reviews on Amazon are helpful though not enough reviews to bring ONWOTE on par with other, comparable systems such as Reolink and the like. (I have no connection to Reolink, whatsoever)
Non-biased presentations are more helpful. Thus, a follow-up video on this system a year later will show us the real value of this system. Curious to see! Thank you!

Something to be wary of is anything plastic or any shrubs will reflect infrared light at night, so you need to ensure your cameras view is free from these in its immediate location. So for example if you gutter or external lights are to close it will cause issues at night.

You should have built your own network cables. You can buy a box of shielded CAT6 for next to nothing, crimp ends, and crimpers are even cheaper. That way you don't have a bunch of extra wire in the ceiling.

Nice and simple explained everything :) Thank you very much !

use electrical tape around the cables to bunch them together so that they wont get stuck on edges. Try to tape the cables in a stepped line that way it doesnt get like a big fat ball of cables.

Josh, excellent video! Did not hear you comment on lack of "color night vision" and lack of "two way audio". Also, how does it alert you to an intrusion when you are not watching the monitor and your smart phone? You mounted you monitor in your laundry room, correct? Just wondered if you considered mounting it somewhere that you could view it while you were in your recliner at the end of the day, just some thoughts, I am planning how/where I want to install my system. Again, great video.
