Killer brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez are back in the headlines after Netflix released the latest season of the anthology series “Monsters.” The privileged brothers killed their parents, Lyle and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. But how many liberties did producers take in the fictional series? Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber separates fact from fiction.

If this was two sisters it would have been a completely different verdict. It’s disgusting that abuse towards a male is judged differently.

The uncle testified that Jose punched one of them in the stomach when they were like 5 years old. There was so much abuse in that house of horror.

repeat after me: the show is not a documentary!

My interpretation of the show is that ryan murphy was trying to show all the different theories in one timeline.

The incestuous scenes were disgusting!

Even if they were spending all their dad‘s money, it is still no worse or different than what gypsy Blanchard did. She ended her mother and then rated her safe. Somehow gypsy only got eight years, though, and is now out here living her best life making, big money off of ending her mom. It just doesn’t make sense that these guys are still in jail for life for the very same thing. Somebody else only got eight years for.

Seems like their dad really did abuse them... What they did was wrong, but theyve done enough time.. Almost 30 years. I say let them out.

I don’t trust Netflix with documentaries

Even if the show was inaccurate, the boys relatives all back up the fact that Jose was a horrific parent and more than one day the boys told them of the abuse years earlier. They did commit the crime and possibly were partially financially motivated. But life without parole when the crimes were committed at a young age under awful circumstances is not just. 5 to 10 years would be just

It was an intriguing series, but they really did Lyle (especially) dirty.

The show was a disgusting exaggeration It should’ve been called “Monsters: the Jose and Kitty Menendez story” because they were the real monsters. Not Lyle and Erik.

Ryan Murphy is terrible for the incestuous parts of the story. The dad did abuse them but they weren’t kissing each other.

Netflix also just made a documentary about the brothers with all the people who were there ! Actual facts not a dramatization.😊

I actually stopped watching it because of the amount of things they got wrong or just totally made up. Exactly why I don’t usually watch dramatizations, I won’t be trying again

It's a trip down memory lane for those of us who were kids in the 90s when this all went down, particularly the OJ Simpson cameo, and the choice of the (overrated) Milli Vanilli hit "I'm Gonna Miss You" for the soundtrack is also a nice bit of symbolism.

The show was pure camp and voyeurism... and says more about Ryan Murphy than it does the facts of the story. It's unwatchable and is hopefully the nail the in coffin of the "Ryan Murphy" treatment of true crime.

To clarify. You’re saying they never went to the movies and tried to buy tickets to a showing that had already started (to manufacture an alibi) and were told that was not possible? If so, I don’t believe that. That narrative of them going to the movies has been very consistent and Lyle himself says they did that in interviews.

Why would anybody need to watch a series about their story? We have all the real footage from the past...horrifying!!!

I’ve been watching your videos since they’ve started and I’ve always felt like you’ve been a reliable source of information. After this reporting I don’t trust that you fully do your research. This video is titled “everything” they got wrong and it doesn’t even graze the amount of misinformation in that show. You pronounce both therapists names wrong and get a simple fact, easily researchable wrong. They did leave the house after the murders. Jesse are you biased on this case or just not putting in the work?
