Did Barbour create the best jacket back in 1983? I certainly think so.

I've been wearing them forever and I agree that they are the best Autumn / Winter jacket on the market. I have just ordered a new one, which sucks a little because anyone in the know can spot a new Barbour from a mile away. My 20 year old one really had passed it..not retired but having a well earned rest..I have slept on park benches in it; under hedges and so on and yes, used it as a dog bed before. The Beaufort is by far the best in my view; I've had others but either didn't like the length or something else..So this is the one to get if you are new to these jackets for sure.

I also like that you had a G&T ( I assume that it was) in hand, wearing a decent shirt and had a cool looking guitar..all good things to make me sub. Thanks

My Beaufort is one the best gifts I've ever given myself. The zip vest liner is great too!

Just watched your video. I agree with your assessment of the Beaufort. I bought mine 2 years ago and have worn it pretty much all year around and that says a lot because I live in Michigan, USA. I love wearing my Harris tweed sport coat under it without any problem for the cold and wet of a Michigan winter.

i now have 4 barbours... i have a barbour international tantallon which is for freezing winter weather.... a lutz for coffee shops and work attire, a beaufort for general running around all weathers, and a border for taking the dogs on the moors which is heavily waxed to near cardboard quality for windy sleet and heavy rain on the pennine moors.
the most pleasing and pleasurable jackets for me are
the border....it ireally is a proper coat and its a size up so i can layer thick fleece underneath and it is proper functional and huge pockets, you dont need a bag....its not too stylish...but functionally it is AMAZING... i get my flask, my dog lead, dog treats, doggy bag, big phone wallet, hat, torch, big plastic bag, cup and sometimes more in all the pockets with loads to spare,
and the tantalon which is just super warm in freezing frosty weather and looks smart for town hopping in winter when i am not moving much ...
then again the beaufort is just fantastic to throw on anywhere for nipping out, or just having a wander, or shopping or nipping round a mates house, not overkill when jumping in the car, its so versatile and can handle some layering and pretty much all weather except hot summer, and coldest winter....in the car hops, the border and tantallon are too much for that as they are more functional and bigger jackets, and a bit too hefty for buzzing around in and out...
and the lutz just makes me look like a billionaire businessman.

I purchased the Bedale last year and it has been my favourite coat to have ever owned. The Beaufort is also a true work of art. Hoping to pick one up someday! Great review.

I absolutely love my Beaufort. A 2001 Rustic brown with the old fur lining (when needed). A great patina and has been used for everything. The best looking Barbour I have. It’s the same cut and design as my Classic Moorland in Sandstone. Both epic jackets, although I do prefer the sleeve length on the moorland (seems to be about an inch longer). Moorland is slightly heavier too.

I agree that everyone should own a Beaufort though. A design classic.

Just brought my fifth barbour, a classic beaufort just like this. I'm addicted!

I've owned two Made in England Barbour Beauforts since 2005, and I will probably always wear one. They do, however, get slightly heavier each time they are waxed, and they get worn out and tear especially at the lining near the bottom. Realistically, if you only own one Beaufort, it will probably last around 10 years-- unless you like the look of having multiple patches and repairs around the coat. Finally, waxing makes them shiny and sticky for a month, so if you have a new car, don't wear the jacket while driving since the wax will transfer to the seat.

I have two Beauforts and and a Bedale, both Beauforts are Classics and the Bedale is a brown thornproof. One of my Beauforts has the zip in pile lining. I live in Georgia in the U.S. and the Beaufort with the zip in lining is more than adequate for our Winter weather, even the coldest weather we experience (usually lows in the 20s/highs in the 40s). The Beaufort without the lining is ideal for almost all of our regular late Fall, Winter and early Spring weather. I think the Bedale is the more stylish jacket but the Beaufort is the best all around jacket.

What a great review! You've persuaded me to get one - it will replace another Barbour waxed cotton jacket that i've had for almost a decade which, despite it's usable condition, lacks some of the practical elements and charm that this one has, like hand warmer pockets, the ability to add a hood and the classic corduroy collar. Thank you!

Just watched the video and have to agree with you that this is a great jacket. I had to wait a very long timer before I bought my Beaufort just over two years ago. Since then, I have worn it while hiking, hunting, going to an informal event and wearing a Harris tweed sport coat under it and just grabbing it to wear to the local grocery store. It can carry my camera lens, my Nikon D7200, spare battery, gloves and iPhone on a hike. It is just so damn versatile and good looking no matter where I go.

I've just bought a vintage Beaufort in navy online to go alongside my vintage navy border, I can't wait for it be delivered and get it cleaned up and rewaxed.
I love your channel and bought the jacket on the strength of this video, i learn allot and have quite a little collection going now😊

I got given the Ashby as a gift last Christmas, but wasn’t enamoured with the fit and decided to exchange it. I ended up with a Beaufort two sizes (!) smaller and had the sleeves lengthened by about 2.5 inches by Barbour. The result is simply perfect - I can’t believe how well it fits and how good it looks. Unbelievably versatile!

Good review. It was the coat length over the other jackets that swayed my decision, and i got the Beaufort in black. I'm 5'7" and have 38" jacket and the sleeves length i agree are 'sparingly' cut, though not as obvious.
As for waxing, i do mine once a year and i do it on the hottest June day possible, then hang it up on a coat hanger in the sun for a couple of hours to let that wax penetrate into the seams as much as possible.

Good to see you here man! Great review. Beaufort is my favourite fall, spring jacket no doubts. But Canadian (Ontario) winter is too harsh for Barbour classic jackets )

Just bought a Beaufort and know it will be a daily wearer, never enamoured by Barbour in the past but very comfortable and keeps the rain and wind at bay, bought the hood at the same time and very glad I did.

I’ve got mine 5 years ago, it’s the best jacket out there ! And once it’s proper beaten, it’s stunning.

Do you prefer Sylkoil or thornproof for the Beaufort? Also wondering which is more durable

I couldn't agree more. Is there a better "all around jacket" out there? I seriously doubt it. The Beaufort is like the swiss army knife of jackets. Excellent video.
