In the game pocket I’d store the hood and my cashmere scarf. Perfect for when the weather turns while you are out. One of the best reviews I’ve seen. Thanks keep doing them.

Like you, I am 5'-7" tall but larger in chest and waist. I think the Bedale model is the best option for those of us who are shorter in height. I am looking forward to purchasing my first Barbour jacket soon ! Many thanks for doing this video as it was EXTREMELY HELPFUL and INFORMATIVE ! Wear your Barbour's in good health - Happy Holidays !

I vote Bedale. Thanks for doing this review. Comprehensive, detailed, and insightful. Idk if I’d wear it w/a suit, but 100% for business casual or even jeans & sweater.

Excellent review. The Bedale is an equestrian jacket designed to be worn while riding. The snap flap at the bottom of the Bedale is designed so the coat tail will drape over the back of the saddle when riding. The gusseted sleeves are also designed with riding in mind as the gussets keep wind from blowing up the sleeve when riding at speed. The nylon "skirt" is on the Bedale so moisture will not wick up the cotton lining if riding in the rain.

The Beaufort is designed to be an upland hunting jacket. The longer length allows for more protection from briars and the slightly lower hand warmer pockets allow for more comfortable cradling of a shotgun while walking. The game pouch is self explanatory. I find the game pouch ideal for storing a scarf or even a light sweater.

I’m a little over 6 feet and about 215 pounds. I have a Beaufort jacket, size 46. It fits perfectly on the shoulders. I bought a zip in liner. Once that is in place, it fits perfectly. Beauforts are designed to be worn over a suit jacket or a bulky sweater. They require upkeep, but their water resistance is legendary. Look after it, and it will give you years of service.

Both look great. 1st one looks more chore work oriented. The 2nd more professional & city driving/errand/Leica event. Cheers!

I bought my Bedale from Cox the Saddler in the UK. Price was around $230 and shipping took less than a week to Massachusetts

Great review and jackets! I’ve had my Barbour for two years now and it’s perfect for the Northern VA weather in the Fall season.

Nice review, I own the Bedale after ordering both and trying them on at home. I ended up buying a Bedale for wife and daughter. My son bought the Ashby, which is a a more fitted jacket which required him to go one size up. The two colors are navy and sage, the olive looked too brown. Thanks for doing the visual comparison!

The Bedale is a horse riding jacket, the Beaufort is a hunting jacket. That is the reason for the Bedale being shorter. Your "correct" style also depends on where you live. If in Florida a closer fit is fine, in Canada my size 40 Beaufort is my correct size as I need to wear a proper British jumper under it when it gets colder.

Never heard of this, added to my wish list now. I see this going well with my Crocket and Jones boot collection for the fall 👌🏽

Great video. I live in London but we have an old cottage in the country and I have been looking for a new walking coat. I thought about a Barbour several times but always gone for the modern technical jackets. However, I think the time is right. Having looked at a few videos I am going for the Beaufort. Not the most stylish, but practical.

Well done. A very nice post. I have a Beaufort in Sage and a Classic Bedale. I enjoy both of them. I tend to wear the Beaufort a little more often because of the Beaufort poacher pocket and for the inside pocket for my cell phone - it's more convenient to use than the Bedale's inner pocket. Although I do not hunt, that poacher pocket comes in very hand e.g., for an extra dog leash, dog tug, ball, book, newspaper, etc, leaving both hand free. Additionally, I do like the Beaufort style and the Bedale's style is similar. IMHO they are both great waxed jackets and one cannot go wrong with opting for either jacket.

Great review. I have had my Beaufort for over 30 years but have not worn it so much. Have found it too baggy but still like the feel. On the other hand I have used my Burberry trench coats a lot more. Sunspel has excellent English style casual clothing. Really enjoy your videos.

The reason why the Queen Elizabeth wore a Beaufort was because it could accomade a spare crown in the rear pocket !
That poachers pocket is huge !
A hat, gloves . Hood, flask of tea, a pack lunch and a crown will fit in that backpack sized picket with ease .
The side pocket with a zip is handy for a phone or a wallet .
The inner sleeves are better then the Bedale and without layering the Bedale could make you look like a pear, with its boxy shape.
Defo the Beaufort for me !

I think the Bedale fit should naturally be a little loose to take into account the layering that will likely happen beneath. I am a 42" chest and my 40" Bedale is the perfect balance between fit and longterm function.
