Sabine, FUSION (not fission) and ITER; The Majors One Minute Review #science #sabine #fusion

Показать описание
Today’s review is on Sabine’s Nuclear Fusion video about the EU’s fusion reactor
Part of the never ending attempt to take our ability to make a huge fusion bomb and instead create energy along the lines of what happened with Fission.
She gives a top line review of the projects status. Short version is a $5 billion project due to complete in 2018 is now 2034 for $30 billion. She shares a few of her thoughts on private fusion projects and asks the question is worth the money.
Sabine tends to be one of the better science oriented you tubers out there, but this video falls way short of her norm. Nothing new provided and a short opinion piece. Sabine’s opinion is always interesting, but there is no real backup for what she says.
Other than some top level numbers about the project costing more the is no new information. A science proecting delivering late and over budget in not new.
Which is a shame. There is new information. Namely fusion is extremely hard and the past five years have not seen any significant progress. It remains a low probability high return tech topic. ITER is the poster child on why fusion is still not even close to prime time.
Sabine has done better videos in the past on fusion which are worth watching. This one is a hard pass.
