Toyota Rav4 Prime vs Toyota Rav4 EV. Which is faster?!? This was SO MUCH FUN! I would LOVE to do it again in dry conditions. I think the Toyota Rav4 EV would beat me unfortunately. I LOVE the Rav4 EV I just wish Tesla would support it. The Rav4 platform would be an amazing long term platform for the Tesla technology.....

I'm a 2nd gen rav4 EV owner and I was happy to see you guys did this but the video is kinda pointless in the wet with the full ev being front wheel drive only with insane torque from the model s motor

Hello James if you did not know, you need to turn the car to sport and no hold the brake like that. When you depress the brake the gas engine turns on. These have reached 5.7 to 60 easily in this mode. Ev only mode is slow as well, you want the hybrid to get ev acceleration and then the gas at 40-60. Source: rav prime owner

I think the gas engine turns on periodically to burn a bit of the gas on tank if you are using just EV mode all the time, maybe as a preventive measure

Manual states rapid acceleration will turn on the gas engine even in EV mode but more easily in auto EV/HV mode.

Impressive, but I have to wonder, like everyone else, what the results would be under ideal conditions. Suggest a plan for dry conditions in the spring.

I think the gas engine comes on as a safety feature, punching the throttle all the way, maybe it’s giving you extra power incase you need it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think the gas engine turns on when breaking on take off regardless of the amount of pressure applied

I watched your other video where you tested just the R4P; it seems like the gas engine kicked on when you did the brake stand both times, even in EV mode. I wonder why that is, and if it's actually doing any work or just spinning up?

the gas motor always comes on at 84mph on the rav4 prime

What if you use brake hold instead of holding the brake pedal? Maybe the car is thinking you're trying to launch so it warms up the engine.

When the Prime goes over I believe 84mph on EV mode the engine will turn on automatically.
