I just bought mine 2021 Rav4 Prime - loaded XSE wrapped in Black. Let me know what questions you may have from an actual owner. I drive it 90+ miles a day. Few intial comments: It is a very nice handling SUV, has good power, and a great sound system. I already hate the lane assist (works sometimes), love the panoramic sunroof - and mine (after some miles) can get 42+ miles on a charge (enough for me to drive from Orange County to Rosemead). This is a solid buy - but mine was upwards of $60k with upgraded service warranties and being wrapped in satin black.

Another great review. I’ve had an EV, and the quiet ride is really nice. This RAV may not be an enthusiast vehicle, but I think Toyota has a winner here. They won’t be able to make enough.

I like your positive energy during your reviews. Even when you have concerns you present them directly and not in a negative fashion. Refreshing!

I have a 2018 Prius Prime and absolutely love it. Getting over 220 mpg and charging with home solar. 85% in EV mode, and that's with a 25 mile range. Have gone 25, 000 miles with 113 gallons of gas (plus sunshine).

I have this 2021 Prime and can confirm it feels very quick from zero to 60, and also pretty quick from 60 to 100. The cruise control with lane assist makes LA traffic a breeze, and combined with the HOV sticker, it makes my Long Beach to El Segundo commute a breeze. I went with the XSE model with all the bells and whistles, premium sound, and full leather interior. By far the most fun car I have ever had. The 302 HP is really fun. It takes Dodge Chargers and Ford Mustangs off the line with no problem (except when they catch up at about 70mph, then the dodge charger or mustang drivers are irate that a tiny Toyota dominates off the line.)
I can confirm that it is incredibly fun to drive. I tried to race my mom in her Tesla Model X in plaid mode, and I was left in the dust. So nowhere near as quick as a Tesla in Plaid/ludicrous mode, but can go much further on road trips; I can make it from LA to Marin County on a full tank without ever having to stop for gas ⛽️. Trail mode is also great for snow, and there is plenty of cargo space for 2 snowboards and all the needed gear.
It should be noted that the fuel efficiency goes down a little when charging while driving, but it is a really great feature to have, but unfortunately can't charge the battery all the way to 100% (stops somewhere close to 95%).
One final thing to note: I have had this a year, and after 100+ charges and discharges: my EV range went up from 42 miles to 50 miles in summer but can only get up to 45 miles in winter or cold weather charging.
Overall, this car far exceeds my expectations 😮

I really appreciate the offroad testing even on something like this plugin hybrid.

One small thing I'd like to point out is the 2.5 hour level 2 charge time requires the car to have a 6.6kW onboard charger which is only offered in the premium package exclusive to the XSE trim. Any XSE without the premium package or any SE trim will have a 3.3kW onboard charger which will charge in about 4.5 hours with level 2 according to the owner's manual.

You have one of the best technical and owner prospective reviews (subscribed).
unlike most other reviewers that make their reviews more like car company ad.

This thing is underrated heavily! I have beaten the sh*t out of one in Iceland, even nearly drowned it completely in a massive river.. but it didn’t let me down.

Amazing display of this cars capabilities. You know how to test sir, that beat the crap out all of them. That Rav would make my 30 mi commute all electric, so crazy Eco and capable.

Really impressive video and vehicle. Great job, Ryan! I love the concept of having an EV when you want it but a hybrid as a backup for longer trips.

This is an amazing all rounder and amazing acceleration, efficiency, ergonomics and reliability. That slope in the cargo floor would drive me nuts though every time I opened it as my kids stuff and groceries would just roll out

Enjoy your videos of the Rav 4. After your positive reviews I can’t wait for my “prime” to arrive.

In all of my Prime research, how did I not see this video from long ago? Anyhow, great review! This definitely gives me confidence in its off road capabilities. Not for extreme, like you said, but the occasional off the beaten path adventure. Can't wait for mine to arrive.

Thanks for taking it off road and on the same course for reference. And congrats on the 100k the production quality is top notch.

I love my RAV4 Prime! I didn't buy it for the speed or AWD, but it's great to know it can go off road well. I grew up driving up roads like the ones in this video on a daily basis, as my house was in the boonies. (We had 1970's FWD Subaru wagons that made those trips just fine.) My 2004 Prius certainly wouldn't go (I tried), but this Prime will! Woot! Woot!

Defenitelly the best review on RAV4 Prime so far. And the car seems to be pretty decent! Hope to get one in few years 🤞

Nice video, but three suggestions you may try them out, (atleast on my car they work)
1) Don't usea manual gears in sport mode, the CVT/PSD is way better avoiding gear change simulation.(sport, gear shifter in auto)
2)Put in Sport before you Stop.
3)When going down hill, move the shifter in to manual and select the first gear, the regeneration resistance will encrease and you can reduce and encrease the force with the brake paddle.
