no just lets them know just how big the spot they are trying to squeeze into, Their Tail helps them to keep their balance out on tree limbs, if I can fit in here that big thing can't get to me

This cannot be emphasised enough, never, never cut a cat's whiskers .A cat will feel lost and unsettled with cut whiskers, it may also be unable to judge the size of small gaps, openings etc .I can't imagine why anyone would want to do this anyway, but people do odd things .
