Recently I interviewed Elaine from Old Homestead Alpacas, a homestead in Walla Walla Washington. Elaine shared the different ways she makes money from her homestead. Last year Elaine made 10,000 from her homestead, and one of the ways that she made money was with air bnb!

Elaine didn't rent a room out of her house. She actually just rented a "DIY CAMPING" experience to people who wanted to camp on her farm. She was booked solid each weekend through the summer.

In this video I share a snippet from a recent podcast that featured Elaine. Download the entire podcast in iTunes or Stitcher.

You will NEED to make sure you have proper insurance in place to do this, otherwise it would be a HUGE liability.

Make sure to have a $1, 000, 000 liability insurance if you do rent spots.

This is a great idea! On top of the land you can rent you are also a valuable source of local information for your guests. We learn more from our hosts than anyone else. Very good video Austin! Thanks to your friend for sharing this with us.

I've been doing this for 4 years on my developing farm in East Coast Canada. It's great, travelers from all over enjoy the experience. It's easy money except the porta potty, which was 150/mth for me. I've had hundreds of guests. Instagram and Fb pages with nice pictures will get people excited to come check out the place. Thanks for the video Homesteady. I love you guys.

What a great idea! People are interested in farms, so it makes sense, especially if you are in a reasonable driving distance from a bigger city. We considered AirBNBing our basement before, and the money can add up really fast.

Thats a really good idea!! I got 80 acres to mess with so really considering this. Side note I know you get down on youtube but your channel is gold only one that puts out practical knowledge of actual homesteading full time with different money streaming ideas!! Love it keep up the good work

love your videos, I subscribe to an RV weekly news letter and they have mentioned numerous times that people pay big bucks to camp on private land like yours and there are many people who want the farming experience and pay the farmer even more for the stay ( a real working vacation ).

I rented out my garage for dry camping, and last year I made several thousand dollars doing it. It sounds crazy, but don't judge. I needed the money, and the people needed a place to stay. It all worked out.

Not happening in Arkansas, maybe $10 a night. The full-service Corps of Engineers campground down the road only charges $18 per night. Every market is different. If people can make this kind of money, go for it, but very few areas can charge that much.

Super Idea. That is one of the reasons we left where we were at. We were renting and had so much beautiful land and the landlord would not allow us to let people camp because he did not want the liability. He would not even let people walk through our property to get to the river to fish. You can make good money letting people camp.

You should consider building a couple yurts. You easily get more than $50.00 a night.

If you raise critters for meat, you always have to have a steady supply of animals that you keep butchering. Trees have to mature and need care to last. Vegetables will have to be reseeded. If you rent out space, you always have the space. If you shear your sheep, you eventually will have to replace them. Services depend on you.

Porta-Johns around $200 a month to rent I don't know about your area but our area if you open up a campsite you have to be State inspected and it's $250 a year for the license what a great idea but it will not work in my area and liability insurance would be off the hook thanks for sharing the video
