In my family, conflict was always about finding fault and winning. It had zero to do with coming to any kind of mutual agreement or solving problems.

It was always a competition. And those you started the fights (Dad and his Golden Child) played to win.

Treating me like I matter...

I'm not asking for that

Having to be asked to be treated like I matter all week is definitely a deal breaker

Thank you for adding the part about not being able to heal a relationship with someone who will not recognize their part. I have had to abandon many relationships since I became trauma aware. The old me let everyone walk all over me because I was afraid of being “bad”. I was the bad kid growing up, the black sheep scapegoat, the only boy in a house of females. No grandparents. No dad. No safe people to talk about guys stuff. No males to model masculine behavior or decode the mysterious behaviors of females. It’s been super hard. On top of that I was a gifted child, didn’t have to study until college and graduated top 10 in my class. No one taught me how to study. Mom just bragged about her smart kid. But then I hit puberty and rebelled. I still valued academic performance, but I started to prioritize using substances and chasing women. I got sober in my senior year of high school. I was starting to go down hill and went to rehab.

I have been trying to get healthy but it’s a slow walk down a long path. My fellow survivors, be good to yourselves today!
