The Charter has had a tremendous impact on Canadian life since it was adopted, yet a number of its protections have yet to be fully considered or addressed by Canadian courts. Among the several "fundamental freedoms" guaranteed by section 2 of the Charter, only a few have been given significant attention. What about the others — why are they important to our democracy, and how might they be realized? And what do we still need to learn and understand about the meaning of our "fundamental freedoms" generally? Watch this video to learn more.

This video series is co-presented by the Forgotten Freedoms Project and Christian Legal Fellowship. It shares some of the research associated with The Forgotten Freedoms Workshop held in September 2019, which was supported in part by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Section 1 aside, there is one of the four freedoms that is modified: "peaceful" assembly.
