13:31 Why This Batman needs Robin
The Batman is incredible, and the way the film ended there are so many questions about what comes next?
The Batman 2 can go in so many directions, but there are a lot of clues to the villains and stories we might see in the sequel. Probably the biggest reveal is Barry Keoghan as the Joker. And we got to talk about what kind of Joker we are getting, and how he fits into the sequel. Also, no doubt the Riddler will return, and the Penguin is likely to play a huge role as well. But there might be some hints to other potential villains and stories we could see in the future. And of course, what’s next to Batman himself?
Well, there are a lot of questions, so let’s just jump into it all right now.
Ok, let’s begin with what everyone wants to know about - The Joker. Barry Keoghan is our new Joker. So this Joker is already in Arkham. We don’t know anything about him just yet, or whether or not he already faced Batman in the past. Since The Batman takes place in year 2, I doubt that Batman and Joker have crossed paths yet. It’s more likely that this Joker is at the very genesis of his journey of becoming the crown prince of crime.
And that means that the Riddler might serve as an inspiration for Joker. I mean just look at all the things Edward Nashton achieved: he single handedly brought down all the key and corrupt players in the city. He inspired an entire fanatical community. And he brought Gotham to its knees by flooding the city.
And it's fitting that Joker is there to become Riddle’s new friend. As if he’s the devil, appearing out of nowhere, just when Gotham is at the brink.
Riddler is a delusional loner, that’s why he believed that he and Batman were friends, partners in crime, working on unmasking Gotham’s corruption. Joker will surely exploit Riddler’s fragile mental state, using Riddler’s intellect and influence to unleash his own carnage on the city.
Gotham has become a no-man’s-land, it’s in utter chaos, it’s flooded, many parts of the city are lawless and isolated. Criminals like the penguin are sure to take advantage of the situation. And with the death of Carmine Falcone, there’s a power vacuum in Gotham’s underworld, something that will surely create a war for dominance between all the criminal factions. Penguin is getting his own HBO MAX spin-off, so the show is likely to explore that.
Matt Reeves have hinted all the possible villains we could see in the future, the most exciting one is Mr Freeze. I think that Victor Freeze is the perfect villain for a sequel, and we have a video coming up about just that.
With Gotham’s chaotic state, Batman is going to have his hands full, and that makes it the perfect time for Joker to make his move. But I’m not sure Joker is going to unleash his hell on the city, but on Arkham.
So here’s my idea for how Joker should work in the sequel.
I’m pretty sure that Arkham asylum is isolated from the rest of the city, likely located on an island, sort of like Alcatraz. There are few hints in the movie to support this.
And there’s a reason why this is so important. Because if Arkham is on an island, then it’s completely isolated and cut-off from the rest of the city. All the cops and emergency services are focused on rescuing the citizens in the city, the prisoners in Arkham are not a priority. And with limited guards, Joker can easily unleash a deadly riot on Arkham and take over the asylum. After what Riddler did, the other patients will fluck to him, and with Joker quickly taking the charge, they will follow him. The Joker is an expert in preying on the mentaly ill.

So yeah, I’m going for Arkham Asylum here. An adaptation of the game’s story will be great, but I’m actually basing this idea on Grant Morrison’s Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On A Serious Earth. What made the graphic novel so brilliant is it’s psychological horror take on Batman. The story was about the destruction of the horrific mental asylum, presenting it as a disturbing and claustrophobic maze.
