Matthew Perry the first boss is actually a real person . He was the American sailor who sailed into Japan with a few warships . He forced Japan to open its ports to trade with the US. Japan was isolationist at the time and run by the shoguns . Perry is considered a controversial figure . He did open the first relations between Japan and the us but did it through force violating Japan’s sovereignty. He is credited with helping to modernize Japan but his methods were questionable . It is why Japan had American military advisors in the Meiji era . If Japan did not adopt a modern military at this time Britain, France or Russia would have colonized it . This is a very interesting setting they choose . It’s the time when the Samurai lose their power and the Japanese empire starts to rise. Some Japanese see this time as a great period others as leading their country to ruin . Sorry for the long post . I just like history 😂
