In this #Atlassian #Jira video you are going to learn how to make an #Epic a child of another issue type. Epics are usually the highest level you can go out of the box, but if you have Jira Premium, you can actually make an Epic be the child of a different Issue type such as an Initiative, Theme, etc. This video will show you the mechanics of making this work in Jira.

Thank you Alex! Please continue detailing your ‘how to’ videos … my company does not have a dedicated administrator and you are my first training go to . Have saved me so much time. Much appreciated 🎉.

Thank you so much for your video, I spent some 45 minutes trying to figure out why my TimeLine was showing issues without parent. Brilliant content! You earned my subscription :)

This is great, I heard Initiatives were going away in July. Do you know if this will still work?

This is great. However, the moment we define the Initiative issue type, the EPIC is level 1 and Initiative is level 2 and we dont know how to change that. That's where we are blocked.

I wish you would add the link to the previous video or edit it to add a future video once you've added it. It's so frustrating to hear you say, go look at a previous video. User experience tip: Don't make us have to go searching. Include the link in your comments.

Awesome explanation! Thanks for that. Is it possible to link as well Stories to the initiative and not only Epics?

Great video. How do we track time for those initiatives that are under that epic. I want to see all of the time for the initiative.

Thank you Alex! great explanation! I wanted to ask you if is possible to move the plan you just created to the Roadmap part where everyone can view it like that?

Hi Alex! thanks for the great content. I'd like to ask "how can you display epics as columns in a Kanban board?"

Hi Alex, can you do an update on the screens configurations with the current Parent field and the removal of the Epic Name field? thanks!

I am literally watching all your videos to set things up for my company, you are god send. Thanks a bunch for putting all the videos out.
I was able to make epic child of initiative. But I need to have Theme above Initiative which will tie all the work to Corp OKR.
I want to ask if it is possible to map a single initiative to multiple theme. Theme is top most on the hierarchy configuration followed by Initiative and so on.

Thanks for the great video, exactly what I was looking for! One question, when I'm in my 'Plans' tab and go to Filters for Hierarchy, 'Task' is not appearing here. Do you know how I can change this to have tasks as part of my hierarachy?

Thanks for the video. I have odd things happening in Jira Cloud, where I can drag epics onto my Initiative within the Advanced Plan view, but this does not populate the Parent Link or Parent fields 🤔

Similarly assigning Iniatives to the Parent Link field does not parent them. It is also annoying that parent link does not seem to be something you can meaningfully query, i.e. show me all children of Initiative X.

Parent link does not show up on the epic details unfortunately...

Hello Alex, I tried creating initiative as you mentioned but seeing this error "Issue type 10000 cannot have parent but a parent is specified" any idea what can cause that?

hi alex, I am not able to create a child epic directly under the initiative, can you please guide me how to do the same, I am only getting the option to create a sub task.

Thanks for the help! I do have a question - after I have created my Initiative and i'm in the Initiative details screen. I'd like to add a child epic but the only option is to add a subtask. Is there a way to have the ability to add an epic from this screen instead of adding the Initiative and epics separately and then later linking them with the parent link?
