As hard as it might be to believe the books are worse than the movie. The book is about a “romanticized” toxic, unhealthy and serious disturbing relationship. Their relationship in book is even worse than the movie. He literally treats her like completely garbage and she treats the people in her life horribly because of him. He does these outrageously horrible things and has no redeeming qualities.
The movie is just awkward, cringy and difficult to watch.
