The worst part are meta changes. Pinocchio goes to school and they throw him out… in original he chooses to not go and the lesson is different. Now it’s the society punishing him. Not his own fault. And small things like no smoking scene and generally he is a victim and not a bad boy

The death knell for any franchise, "we've updated it for modern audiences."

I have a large LARGE issues with these live action movies/realistically animated movies. But I think one of my biggest problems with these movies is that they're afraid to have intimate, emotional moments. They just throw some humor into it and call it a day. Finding Nemo, Mulan, Incredibles, Ratatouille, All those movies came out when I was young. And I loved the funny parts, but the emotional parts hit just as hard. I hate that they are removing a lot of the emotional beats to these stories

The problem is not only with the filmmakers, but with the audiences. As long as these movies keep making money, they'll continue to crank them out. People don't think for themselves anymore.

“I despise these films with every fiber of my being”. Well said!

The worst thing that Disney did is that the original one is about personal responsibility, where in the new one, Pinocchio is a victim of circumstances and society

I met Chris like 6 years ago. We chatted for about half hour at a party. He is a very insightful guy, glad I got to meet him.

Pinocchio waking up as a real boy is the most magical movie scene of all time. Always brings tears to my eyes. The live action version takes that scene and flushes it down the toilet like a turd. Only the stains remain. Tom Hanks, an actor who takes on roles with enormous conviction, doesn’t even pretend to care.

After all I've learned about how Disney stretched copyright law to the breaking point, you'll never convince me that these live action remakes aren't meant to reset the copyright dates on iconic looks/characters. The fact they can milk them for whatever nostalgic box office receipts they can is just a happy side effect

Chris Gore is exactly how I feel about modern movies.

Edit: Wow I didn't realize how much this would resonate.

This man is really telling the issues with the film industry. It sucks but is real, my respect to this man

'Factory film making' is a very good description of what is happening.

Chris is an instant click-on when I see him in a thumbnail. He is fair, level, informed, and sometimes absolutely brutal.

I am a parent and I understand why many parents use movies/ TV as a babysitter, but it's a really bad babysitter. The tradeoff is almost never worth it. That's one of the great things about "classic" films: they were made for families rather than for children, so parents can watch and enjoy them with the kids, rather than just plopping them in front of a screen and walking away.

Chris Gore is the only dude in Hollywood willing to call out the bullshit the industry has been on. Somebody needs to get this man a security detail

In the animated film, Pleasure Island was a place where the boys would actually do illegal things like vandalism, smoking cigars, underage drinking, etc. But in the liveaction version, it's just kids being hyper, drinking and eating too much sweets- tyical kid things but they're still being punished by being turned into donkeys.

And the fact that they copied the nose-lengthening scene from Shrek 2 (maybe for reference points), they completely erased the lesson of how lying will just cause you more problems and they just outright kicked Pinocchio from school just because he looks different was twisted. It just showed that Pinocchio did the right thing but got punished for it instead of showing the puppet was ignoring his conscience (Jiminy Cricket) and decided to join two strangers with the promise of fame rather than go to school as his father instructed.

Chris is perhaps one of the last truly honest film critics out there.

Edit: Yes, and the Critical Drinker too

Thank you for your brutal honesty, Chris Gore. Those are not just bad movies, they are part of the education of our children, and it's almost impossible to convince them that the old animation movies are far better than the new live action ones

After watching Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio I watched the Italian Pinocchio starring Roberto Bengini. It blew me away, man oh man what a movie.
