I have two questions. 1. Does the check engine light have to be on before oil service? 2. Will the check engine light go out after the oil service reset?

Mine would not reset. I had changed the battery and needed to reset the clock !! ( I did the new battery reset but forgot the clock - duh ) Then all worked fine FYI
