🏆 My Goal 🏆
My goal is to share the stories of flags on YouTube to as many of you as possible. To bring them to life through quick and simple facts, history, meaning in as entertaining a way I can.
I want to cater to those of you who might want to know a little more about a flag linked to a holiday to a vexillologist who knows their shi.... stuff. I want to help YOU, whoever you are out there reading this, increase your knowledge and expand your horizons in the world of flags.
But what is this flag?
This is the Three-coloured flag with the Lion and Sun and was first used in Iran in 1907. The green is for growth and nature, white for freedom and red for bravery, but it's the emblem in the middle that differentiates this flag to the current one. The lion and sun symbol was mostly based on astronomical and astrological configurations, the sign of the sun in the house of Leo, which dates back to the Babylonian traditions.
During the Safavid and first Qajar King, it became more associated with Shia Islam. For a while the lion stood for the state, or government and the sun represented Islam.
However, after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, this flag was replaced by the current on 29th July 1980, which is why this flag is now used as a sign against the today's regime.
