Baltimore bridge collapse: What happened?

A major bridge has collapsed in the US city of Baltimore after it was hit by a cargo ship, in what the city's fire department has called a "dire emergency".

Rescue teams are searching the water by the fallen Francis Scott Key Bridge for casualties, with eight people thought to have fallen in, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD).

Sky's Martha Kelner spoke to a local resident and a friend of the missing workers to find out what happened.

A properly designed bridge has huge concrete abutments surrounding the supports. The supports should NEVER be allowed to be directly struck like that.

They said they lost power before impact🤔 wouldn't that mean they were floating? So how can a non powered cargo ship pick up the rate of speed, without power? Smh

Luckily it's a Singaporean cargo ship, if it was a Chinese or Russian cargo ship,
then imagine what the western politicians and media would say...

Not sure many bridges could withstand 10, 000 tonnes of metal travelling at 8 knots. A better question might be is where was the escort tug? Why were ships of that size allowed to proced under their own power and control through such a critical stage of voyage?

What happened? Someone aboard the ship deliberately steerd it into one of the two places that would make the entire truss section collapse. No accident.
