How to Play The Borders by Sam Fender

Here's a look at how to play the studio version of 'The Borders' by Sam Fender. You'll need a capo on the 3rd fret to get started. The chords in this song are pretty easy to play but the strumming / picking pattern for the main riff is played fairly quickly and can be tricky to master.

If you're jamming along to a live version, pop your capo on the 1st fret. You may also notice that the riffs are slightly different in the live version. The intro riff goes to a Fmaj7 in the middle as usual before swapping back to an Fsus2, Gsus4 and then playing the lead line. The other three times through the riff are all played without the lead line, and simply repeat the first four bars of the riff.

Good luck and happy practicing!

Do you know how Sam plays the solo? I know it's probably way too complicated, but maybe you could still figure it out somehow. That would be really cool, even if it needs 100 hours of practicing I'd still try to learn it somehow.😅

Hi Andy, for the gsus4 pulloff lick, is there a cadence to it or an extra note missing? I’ve tried slowing down the video and following your tab but when I play along it seems like I’m missing a note as it never syncs up with how you play it/ the riff in the song

dude you have to be the best Onlline instructor next to Justin Guitar. I tried Ret shelt/mary spender/Paul Davids and they dont do the best job at slowing things down especially Marty Music which is by far the worst one because he has the worst camera angles and some of them arent even closeups. Good stuff dude
