I worked at a mental health facility for a few weeks and quit because doctors and upper staff were horribly cruel to patients. And they had a sexual deviant in same unit as a pretty 18 year old girl with severe post partum depression and he kept sexually harassing her. I reported it but all they did was tell him to quit bugging her.

Im pretty sure most psychiatric hospitals were cruel right up until the 70's & 80's. I worked in aged care in the 70's but left because of the horrors there. Strapping them down while they screamed was normal to stop them wandering.

They viewed Electo-Shock Therapy, Libotomies, and Cold Water Soaking ‘Baths’ as valid treatments for Mental Illness, so I can’t imagine what exactly They would view as ‘cruelty’ towards patients!
