This is the only practical way to inspect the timing belt
Ford can't always be trusted on service intervals etc,but their claim that the in oil timing belt will last the life of the engine seems to have some merrit.I will link to some articles I've found on the subject. However there are some aftermarket BIO"belt in oil" products out there.I would not trust them.I'm just offering information Please assess your mechanical abilities accurately before attempting repairs or inspections.
Bottom line is use a high quality full synthetic oil every 5000 miles.
I purchased the new belt including the oil pump belt FROM FORD and looking at them as well as the one on the car they are high quality parts. It is more like a strap encased in rubber than a rubber belt which happens to have reinforcement strands.

To get this far, I would have just gone further & changed the belt, & don’t forget there’s another wet belt in the sump from the oil pump to crankshaft that sits behind the main belt, which the the oil pump does not need to be timed like the main belt does, so I’d change that too & give the car a new reliable lease of life for the next several years & hats off to you buddy for being like me concerned for your car :)

Thank you for the information provided. It was really helpful. I think these are great engines, however I do think to keep them right you need to spent on quality oil. Hope its still running well. 👍👍👍

I got my timingbelt changed at 90K and my belt was toothless on 15% of the belt, i have used Castrol 5w20 and did 5-7K oil changes from new until now.. I would check the belt every 30K or less from now on.. My pickup was clogged up with fragments and teeth from the belt..Dunno how much harm it has caused - but it's not good with restricted oilpressure and did not get any pressure warnings at all... I did not see this coming at all as i did a lot of oil changes - but DI engines have their issues with diluting the oil and that's why it's also a good idea to change it often and run the engine warm a lot to get the gasoline to evaporate..

George, if you like to do preventative maintenance, I would advise not to rely on the warning light for oil pressure. I have recently worked on a 1.0 where the pump was badly blocked but still put out the warning light. Turbo was wrecked due to oil starvation.

I have towed in a 2014 fiesta 1.0 (BIO) with 66, 000 miles, the owner reported a knocking sound, so I presumed the normal blocked oil pump with bearing failure, but when I took the sump off I found 3 timing belt teeth!!

The high pressure fuel rail connection pipe is not required to be replaced per the dealer service manual. It's no different than the high pressure injector lines like you would see on a diesel, those are removed all of the time for service and never replaced.
There's nothing unique about that high pressure fuel hardline that requires it to be replaced unless you mangle it on removal.

WSS-M2C948-B, other oils ruins timing belt and oil pump belt. Then derbies of belts clock oil pump screen -> no oil pressure -> new engine.

Brings back memories from 4 months ago when our belt failed at 74, 000. It stripped all the teeth of the belt was not caused by the belt failing but the tensioner spring broke so the belt lost tension. Its a poor design.

Good job George! better to check it. I have a question, when you extract the plastic cover, did you reuse the gaskets? Is difficult to reuse it and assembly all together? thanks

I've got a '15 Fiesta with same engine and 48km's on the clock ( 30k miles) from new. Does it need replacing in spite of the low mileage but it's 10 year birthday is looming ? Good video.

Useful video George, my ecoboost has just reached 29k but is 8 years old with a full Ford service record, I'm debating wether to get the belt replaced or change the car .

Ford says the oil timing belt should be replaced in 10 years or (125000 miles). They never said it was lifetime timing belt.

Hey, a very useful video thank you! What type of oil did you use and with what specifications (5w30, or 5w20 ...)?

Hi, great video. Do you have any explanation of the premature belt failure complaints. All of these were original belts I believe and it also seems logical for the car owners to service the engines with the correct oil at the correct interval as most of these cars are relatively new. In Bulgaria the warranty period for Focus/Fiesta is 5 years .... Thanks in advance!

those belts worked so "great" that Ford went back to timing chain with the newer 1.0 Ecoboost engines. Using a belt in engine oil is the most stupid design in history. Ridiculous that both - Ford Ecoboost and PSA Puretech - got the "Engine of the year" award for such a garbage design.
