Just had the belt done on my 2014 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost just shy of 10 years old, owned from new and mostly a town car with daily short journeys 5-15 miles. 54, 000 miles, fresh oil every year 4 x ford sevice, the rest at the local shop who did the belts and have always invoiced Castrol Magnatec 5W-20 on the service. Asked the shop for feedback prior to job, they said they planned to take photo's but was so clean there was nothing to take a photo of. They actually asked if I'd had it cleaned previously and said it was the cleanest of the 50+ they had seen. Can only speak from my experience but oil seems to be the key. Not a fan of the new 2 year / 18, 000 mile intervals, oil is cheap comparted to engine failure.

Ja u siebie rozebrałem po 10 latach i 138tyś i smok czysty. Zawsze lany CASTROL przeznaczony do ecoboost z oficjalnej dystrybucji.

Unfortunately you cant always be sure what oil your service dept actually puts in. And that's what makes these wet belt engines such a risky buy.

I have a 2013 fiesta 1.0 ecoboost and i had my belt swapped at the 11 year mark and 147.000 km on it and it still looked ok by regularly having the oil changed it's not like it holds much anyway

A mechanic said that all these belts on these will break down and clog up the oil take up!This video seems to suggest otherwise tho!

I have a 100cv C max 1.0 from 2014, 8 years old and 97, 000 km. I changed the timing belt and this piece did not present wear problems. I do the services every year, a specific Ford oil change in an official technical service, every 12, 000 km. I have seen engines and belts very damaged by inadequate oils, 5w30 or 5w20 that did not meet ford specifications, in addition to changes with a lot of mileage and 100% urban routes. It is my humble experience and I hope that this car will last me much longer.

Using the right oil recommended by ford has slowed the belts breaking up and clogging the oil pump strainer

A Ford focusom beindítás után picit bezörög aztán alszik ki az olajnyomás lámpa, de aztán melegen is tartja az olajnyomást

We had this engine in exactly this condition after 218, 000 km when we had the distribution system done. Until 180, 000 km castrol 5W 20 then Millers oils 5W20. Focus combi MK3 2013 1, 0EB 92kW.

is only 62.5k miles at the 18k Mile/ 2 year recommended service intervals, the car would have only had 3 oil changes (half way to being due its 4th) at approx 7 years old.

Considering ford recommend 150k mile/ten year belt changes there should in theory be no reason to inspect that belt yet. 😂😂

I've seen the belts on these block up the oil pump and break at under 30k miles with full dealer service history.

Bare in mind that in the UK these have a long life/18k mile oil change interval so would not even be due the second oil change at 30k miles, dealer tried to claim wrong oil as cause before realising they had serviced it last.

Initially they were all long life but earlier cars have had recommended service intervals cut to 12.5k miles.

I recommend service annually or 10k miles minimum to customers of "long life" cars.

Some user groups are recommending as little as 3-4k mile changes on these.

Even that would be only 2 services before 30k miles

The wet belt in my opinion was a designed to fail part, ford have changed hundreds of thousands of these engines under warranty, with many thousands more paying for out of warranty repairs.

They did the same with the lower belt on the linx 1.8 diesel engine, it was changed from chain to wet belt for seemingly no logical reason.

the original chain design nore the upper belt tend to fail on them, but the wet belt fails regularly causing catastrophic damage, it was such a problem that a chain retrofit kit was made for them.

I have C-Max with 1.0 Ecoboost also, bought this car 3 months ago. 7 years old, just 19700 km on the clock now - it was a car from an old man, who drove with it less km in year. This engine is surprisingly good but i have one question - is your ecoboost quite noisy at low temperatures when not yet warmed up? It sounds just like diesel. Thanks.

Thank you for posting this video. Good to see the oil pick up screen wasn't coated with bits of belt / contamination and the oil pump drive belt looks to be in reasonable condition? Did you get to see the condition of the camshaft drive belt, what condition was that in?

can you take the oil sump pan off without removing like ½ the engine accessories??
