*About the Lyrics
One lyric line in this song has perturbed ELO fans for a long time. And depending on whichever lyrics site you visit, the lyric line in question is not always the same. Here is the line:
"Walking on a wave's chicane"...
Some sites say it's: "Walking on a wave she came".. Or "walking on a wave chicane"...
Others go with the "Walking on a wave's chicane" lyric. Supposedly from a rumor I've heard, chicane means the crest or the frothy tip of a wave. But I haven't found that definition in any dictionary where I've checked.
However on a message board posted this past August I found a post from a guy named Charles who wrote:
"I just read a comment from a guy on another site who claims the record company made a misprint with the word "chicane" and he has a copy of the original lyric sheet, signed by Jeff Lynne noting that it's supposed to be "Walking on a wave she came...staring as she called my name".. no wonder, that makes more sense! It's the correct line!"
And on the same message board posted at that time another wrote:
"I just watched the documentary of the reunion tour in Wembley. He clearly said, "She came." Look for yourself. It's available on Showtime on Demand."
So that's the lyric I went with. - Cat T
