Adrenals' Role in Gut Healing - Dr. J Live Q & A
The adrenal glands are two glands that sit on top of your kidneys, comprising two distinct parts. It produces cortisol that helps regulate metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, response to stress, and other essential functions. Dr. Jay talks about our adrenals and their role in gut healing.
Cortisol can help control blood sugar levels, regulate metabolism, reduce inflammation, and assist with memory formulation. It has a controlling effect on salt and water balance and helps control blood pressure. In women, cortisol also supports the developing fetus during pregnancy and menstrual cycle. All of these functions make cortisol a crucial hormone to protect overall health and well-being.
Now, one of the things that I have found is one of the most commonly overlooked causes of adrenal stress is the gut. Remember - that there’s a fair likelihood that the underlying cause of that adrenal problem could be a problem in the gut because a problem in the gut can cause chronic stress. If you eat bad foods every time you eat, there’s a stress response. If you have an infection all day, that can cause a leaky gut, inflammation, and a stress response, which will derange the ability of the adrenals to heal.
Here are some questions answered by Dr. J: Where to start if you have chronic stress, a low immune system, and low cortisol? How is thyroid function connected to healing the gut? Can a leaky gut cause adrenal issues? Watch the full video to catch more information!
