Smell is powerful. My first dog got pancreatitis and ended up in the hospital for a week. She wasn't getting better, and I thought it was the end. Then I thought to bring her an old, smelly t-shirt I'd been sleeping in. She finally had a good, long sleep that night, and woke up full of energy. I think that smelly t-shirt saved her life.

Initially I kennel trained my dog. He slept in his kennel until I was certain he was house trained. As soon as he was, I let him sleep on a dog bed right beside my bed. I kept him on his own bed for a year or more since I was of the mind that it wasn't good for their behavior to allow them to sleep with you. Then we moved across country... and drove. We stayed in an AirBnB while we found a new home to buy and he started sleeping with us then. In our new home he has slept with us since we got here. He has his own beds, and he will sleep in them until we go to bed... and then he'll climb up with us. We have a king size bed, but a 63 lb bully can still make it a bit uncomfortable sometimes. :)

A real dog lover is going to tell you that our dogs aren't "just dogs" they are individuals with their own personality and they are family.
