Sailboat refit COST! (How much did we spend?)

Bringing this Amel Super Maramu (one of the greatest blue water cruisers built in the 90's and 00's) back to life after a huge accident with a container ship has been nothing short of a crazy roller coster. This we look into the cost of it all and figure out if we have made a good investment and all the numbers that go along with that . We are on the verge of completing this refit and we feel now is a good time to be as transparent as possible with the costs. I think you'll be slightly surprised with the numbers we lay down and we hope this content gives people thinking about taking on a task like this more clarity.

There's no doubt that just working through the various systems has been destroyed and unmaintained over the 30 year life span of this vessel has allowed us to really get to know our boat inside and out. This knowledge more than anything is value in it's self moving forward with this vessel being our full time home.

Had to change my YouTube name, but have been following you since 2017. So glad to see you back! I know it has been brutal, to endure the refit. But you have a fantastic sailboat, for a reasonable price all said and done. I’m sure, it was a lot longer process than you wanted . We are all happy that you did what you did. Thank you, and looking forward to more great adventures!

Doing the re-fit where you are has given you great savings. All the local labor items that you mentioned were about 1/3 of what they would be in the states. I had the hull of my Bristol 45.5 cleaned and waxed, as did you. Your cost $400 mine in North Carolina was $900 or $10 a foot. I've done yacht re-fits in California, Washington, the BVIs, Maine and south Florida and I can tell you rates in Oriental, NC are far cheaper. So it sounds like you've done pretty well. You must really do great research also. The last roller furling main I bought for the Bristol (which is about the same as your Amel) was $7, 500 from Doyle. $2, 000 is a hell of a deal. Good luck and fair winds.
