Palpatine saw Anakin as a potential equal and someone he could relate Anakin got mutilated by Kenobi on Mustafar. If Anakin got back home from Mustafar with his limbs still attached and his potential unscathed, Palpatine would've remained friendly and deferential to him.

I’ve had arguments about this…. Palpatine did “love” Anakin as much as he could care for anyone. He also had a grudging respect for Yoda and Kenobi especially after he defeated Vader. Some people think that he was all hate and Evil, but he was human even as a Sith. Palpatine did care for Anakin and when he finds him nearly dead, Ian has stated that he dis have a slight bit of compassion for this boy he raised.

"There is more oxygen in outer space, than there is love in palpatines heart" what a 🔥 fckn line

Palpatine was like a father figure to Anakin. The more time Anakin spent with Palpatine… the more their bond grew.

Well, he did "raise" Anakin so it's understandable he has some type of attachment for Anakin.

Palpatine: "You are like a son to me my friend."
Vader: "You turned me into a monster!"
Palpatine: (Thinking of his own father) "Right. That's what families do! Love you!"

I think Palpatine cared about Vader like a person loves an art project. Not the object itself but theeffort, inspiration, and planning he put behind it to mold Vader into something horrifically beautiful. Sure there were a couple of major screw ups along the way with Vader, but he worked around and into them to make the piece work. Then Luke appeared and Palpatine saw him as second chance of making the perfect monument to the dark side, the new Vader, but with none of the flaws of the original which is then discarded to the side.

I believe Palpatine considered Anakin as a long term investment rather than the short term others he used. We often grow somewhat attached to our investments ( like fine art ) and when the time comes to sell at your core some where is a little bit of you that wants to keep it. Thoughts?

I do believe that while Palpatine is completely incapable of love or empathy. His ‘care’ for Anakin is as close as he could get to that. Anakin was born with immense power and never appreciated or respected for it and it infuriated him. This is a feeling Palpatine understands very well. It’s because he knew how Anakin felt that he knew the right words to say to him because they were words he most likely wished he heard himself.

It’s interesting that Palpatine could ever “love” someone or something. Yet, he did have such great aspirations specifically for Anakin. That he would’ve become the ultimate Sith after his rule came to an end and to pass on the mantle as the Banite System dictates.

Most of these points have been said before, but this video is the definition of "from a certain point of view." Brilliant video.

I always shudder at what Maul might have become, had Sidious not cast him aside.

I feel like the fact palps made vaders suit painful so he’d have to live in pain forever makes it harder for Vader to let go of the past since he’s constantly reminded of it, sidious wanted him to move forward so bad but he pretty much made it extremely difficult to do so

This makes sense. He didn't love Anakin at all. But there was something in Anakin he saw. He wanted Vader to grow. They had similar origins. I agree. He somewhat cared for Anakin. May the Force be with you too.Have a great one too😀

If Anakin Skywalker were trained directly by the Force itself, it could imply a more guided and purposeful journey. This focused training might enhance Anakin's understanding of the Force, potentially enabling him to reach his full potential more harmoniously. The Force's direct involvement could also steer him away from the darker aspects, increasing the likelihood of fulfilling the prophecy of bringing balance to the Force.

In such a scenario, Anakin might have a better chance of saving his mother, maintaining a healthier relationship with Padmé, and ultimately realizing the destiny foretold in the prophecy. The Force's guidance could act as a stabilizing factor, shaping Anakin into the chosen one in a way that aligns with the balance it seeks.

Deep down I believe that Sidious perhaps saw even more potential in Anakin now more than ever in the Dark Side, sure Anakin lost most of his raw power of the Force Power, but now as Lord Vader he becomes a embodiment of the Dark Side.

“I was pleased that when Anakin is almost brutally destroyed, Palpatine is relived to not only find him alive but also because he is Anakin Skywalker. There is one moment that George scripted in a rather casual way where I touch Anakin’s forehead. I think that’s really the only human moment we see from Palpatine—just a moment of sympathy and compassion for another human being. Not the usual ingredients of the Sith.”

I completely agree. But you'll have a hard time convincing the fanboy nerds who can only imagine Palpatine as a one-dimensional villain that only cares about power and being evil. Look at history, some of the most evil characters have been able to love other individuals, even if in their own wicked way.
