Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 1/8 teaspoon active dry yeast
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup bread flour
3 cups regular flour
2 cups Warm water
2 tablespoons baking soda
to taste coarse salt
4 tablespoons butter (melted)

Directions:

Sprinkle yeast on lukewarm water in mixing bowl; stir to dissolve. Add sugar, salt and stir to dissolve; add flour and knead dough until smooth and elastic. Let rise at least 1/2 hour.

While dough is rising, prepare a baking soda water bath with 2 cups warm water and 2 Tbsp baking soda. Be certain to stir often. After dough has risen, pinch off bits of dough and roll into a long rope* (about 1/2 inch or less thick) and shape. Dip pretzel in soda solution and place on greased baking sheet. Allow pretzels to rise again. Bake in 450 oven for about 10 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted butter and enjoy!

Toppings: after you brush with butter try sprinkling with coarse salt. or for Auntie Anne's famous Cinnamon Sugar, try melting a stick of butter in a shallow bowl (big enough to fit the entire pretzel) and in another shallow bowl make a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Dip the pretzel into the butter, coating both sides generously. Then dip again into the cinnamon mixture. Enjoy!

* The longer and thinner you can make the dough rope, the more like Auntie Anne's they will be. (Of course I don't have the counter space!)

I have made this recipe 7 times they taste awesome I add 3 cups flour instead of 4 because it's overly dry and I use butter spray spray it on the pretzel and get a spoon and spoon cinimon sugar on it and it is always a party hit I guarantee they will taste good.

i just tried this recipe and it's delicious! i would however say, make sure you have PLENTY more normal flour to hand. the dough gets reeeeally sticky, and you'll probably need to add a lot to get it to a non-sticky consistency.

I should also say, with the dough divided up into 10-12 balls. you can fit about 6 on a baking sheet.

Just made these & they were GREAT. Perfect texture!. Crisp exterior and nice and chewy interiors. Delicious too! The only thing I changed was baked at 400 degrees for a little bit longer instead of doing it at 425 as I noticed the bottoms of yours were a bit burnt. Only wish I had made coffee to drink with mine. I shaped mine with a faster simpler method, lay flat on counter, fold 1 end to the middle, then take other end toward the middle and twist around the downward other end. Looked beautiful

It worked! Thanks! I only had AP Flour, but it was okay, just the same. You were not kidding when you said folding a pretzel was the hardest part. I still have a lot of dough left, so I think I'll make pretzel sticks instead.

I am in the middle of making this for the first time wish me luck. I am just waiting for the dough to rise now. So looking forward to it.
I’ve used 3 cups instead of 4 (recommended in the comments) using 1C bread flour and 2C plain/ all purpose.
