Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

at it has to be positive and negative, because we are taking square root??
Thanks

@6:15 you should mention that you can divide by x and by y because xy=1 => x and y !=0, otherwise you can't divide.
@8:15 it should be |x|=|y| right?

Even your old videos are so helpful, thank you :)  This is my second time trying to finish up my math sequence for college, I got hung up at integral calc last time, and your videos give me confidence that I can do it this time!

@DaveAp7 No way!! Actually, this problem was NOT taken from Stewart! Guess we just got lucky!! That's awesome!! :D

When you took the square root, what about the case in which x is negative?
If x^2 = 1, x = (+/-) sqrt(1) => x = {1, -1}.
How come you can ignore the negative one?

square root of the square of x is the absolue value of x

at 8:14 shouldn't it be x = y or x = -y?

I love the videos so far, but I just want to be a little pedantic here. You really should have said x=+/-y. Eventually it would have given the possible solution of x^2=-1, which is invalid if you want real solutions. Still, I think it should have been in there just for completeness's sake. =)

That's funny stuff, because I am on that EXACT same section in that book. hahaha

VERY FUNNY. So uh, how exactly is she wrong? I watched both videos and she DID solve it correctly.

So you are the pretty girl that was still around in Calc III with the 27 other guys. hehe Did you feel like a cookie at a Weight Watcher's convention?

Also, nice vid. =)

I can get the how, but no one has explained the why. Number crunching is not the same as doing math. No wonder why math seems too boring.
