Finally a 42” LG OLED Monitor - KTC G42P5 Review
Well, here we are back with another review. Can you believe it? This time of the KTC G42 P5, a 42 inch 4K 138 Hertz WOLED monitor. And there's a lot of interest in this one because it typically goes on sale over on Amazon for far lower than something like the LG C4, at least back when that released, making this a good alternative on paper.

For those of you looking for a 42 inch dedicated gaming monitor with all the goodies that come with OLED, such as the infinite contrast ratio and the super fast pixel response times, meaning it could be really, really good for HDR and gaming. But the question is, is it actually, or have they horribly mangled the firmware? Let's go ahead and find out. But real quick, before we do, I do wanna mention that KTC did send me this monitor for review, but no talking points were dictated to me and no scores were either. I would never accept such a thing and it will not be impacting my review.

But without of the way, let's dive into the review. And a couple of other things I wanna mention is that it does have an alleged 0.1 millisecond response time. It will have standard G-Sync and FreeSync support and it will of course support HDR as well.

I have been looking to buy a 42" OLED monitor for some time now but the current ASUS PG42UQ 42" are about two years old. I do not think it is worth paying over $1000 for that panel. Maybe if there is a good discount during the holiday sales I might reconsider. I plan to wait and see what CES 2025 has to offer or if ASUS updates their lineup with a new model. I know it is very unlikely but I am hopeful they might release a QD-OLED version or an updated C5 panel.

I was literally looking at the C4 42 inch last night lol. Least this is a bit cheaper. Always good to have more options

This monitor is like 2 years old. ASUS, KTC, and others have abandoned the 42" monitor market with the only option for up to date features at this size being the LG 42" TV's.

That’s how much the 42in Samsung s90d is now. How does that compare?

I got the Asus PG27AQDM but had to return it since the anti-glare coating was way too agressive and very visible on lighter colors like the sky, character skins etc.
I ordered the glossy Asus XG27AQDMG now, since I play in the dark the glossy shouldn't be a problem.
Is the anti-glare coating a problem on all matte OLED or just with the PG27AQDM?

Will we see new 42” OLED monitors coming in 2025? I’m looking forward for one.

Is there any pipeline for glossy WOLEDs? I had a g9, but returned it. I leave my curtains closed always, but I'm not a 0 light vampire setup and even with closed curtains, the purple tint on QD-OLED was atrocious. I know asus has that one woled, but I think it's semi-gloss? Also more interested in 34", 39" or 49"

I recently tested the KTC 27inch OLED WQHD version with 240hz and can confirm what is mentioned in the video. On paper the monitor sounds great. Considering the price it’s still worth mentioning as a good choice. But you can see that the colors are a little „un—vivid”, sometimes too dark and the white subpixels wash the picture out a little. It’s still a decent choice. But it’s not the Big Bang for the buck that one could expect

LG is one of the masters when it comes to OLED, You get what you pay for so 799 its going to be a low - mid oled nothing to get excited about and not even close to a C4

I looked at this online and could not see the upside to it with all the problems, so I stuck with the lgc4 42in in the end. People were complaining on amazon about customer support with this monitor.

Anyone know which software he's using or how to get the information about the hdmi ports at 2:11?

This is a Tv not a monitor. Resolution is way too low. Need at least 5120 by 2160 to be usable for productivity.

This is such a lackluster display. What are these companies thinking? 🤦🏻‍♂️ no respect for their customers imo

They need to get rid of that absolutely hideous logo / branding and cheap "gamer kid" aesthetic.
