Here are our own thoughts and opinions on why social media has such a strong pull on all of us. And how we can fight back against its gravity to become happier and productive beings.
Many people misconstrue dopamine as the happy hormone that chronically sad people lack. But actually dopamine is the hormone of pursuit and motivation. Having the right levels of dopamine in our body makes chasing after a specified goal enjoyable and fulfilling. But as technology has advanced and we can seemingly have everything by the tap of a button, Dr. Huberman believes that regulating our consumption of things that give us a dopamine spike is the best way to protect our levels of motivation. Because a dangerously level of dopamine will have us stuck in "no-go" mode and overthink every decision that we have to make. While a person who is deliberate in what he consumes will always be in a mode of action to chase bigger and better things.
So in conclusion, dopamine is the hormone of pursuit and motivation. With technology making everything so much easier now, we must be deliberate in what we consume and choose to be a part of to protect and keep our dopamine at a healthy level.
