Jeff was making $37k/year at a nonprofit ad then after making some changes and making some connections he made $150,000 in the next 6 months.

After moving to Nashville I got to know Jeff better and I got a chance to hear all of his story. I know that Jeff is a published author with 5 books. His latest is “Real Artists Don’t Starve”. Jeff is also a blogger, he has online courses and a mastermind group.

He is doing lots of things. But I wanted you guys to hear about where he came from and where he is today.

One of my take aways was that he said that he had ideas and desires for years to do something creative....and he never did 😕...man, that was me...so tbis year ive been doing something creative everyday (similar to him writing everyday) and I've gotten a ton of inspiration and drive...thanks Jeff for the video!

Dear Jeff & Jeff, this was an Amazing interview!! MORE interviews like this please. I took so many notes & listened to this a few times. 7 key points stood out for me:

1. Apprentice attitude
2. Be a part of the scene
3. Ask your audience what they want
4. Do something that people want & that brings you joy
5. Study what other successful people are doing that your not doing
6. The difference between starving artist and thriving artist is mindset
7. Can blend the biz w/ the art & the art with the biz

In the book 'So good they can't ignore you' the author talks about career capital...Career capital is a high income "rare" skill that you develop after being in an industry for a certain amount of time (usually years but can be developed in a short amount of time). Jeff didn't make $150, 000 in 6 months...he made $150, 000 in 9 years...it took 8 years and 6months to build up the career capital and 6 months of execution. I think that sometimes we see stories like this and become inspired (which is a very good thing) but don't realize the actual time it takes

There are two things I learned from Jeff's story. One is that when you move fast, you will get the reward fast too. He went from nine years of saying "I should write a book" and not writing it, to writing it in a month and making money almost as soon as he posted it online. And two, it's interesting how so many limiting beliefs around making money, such as "the starving artist", are spread by people who themselves have no money or do not know how to make money. Don't listen to naysayers because they usually don't or can't do anything themselves so they want to bring you down :)
