The fact they try to hide their law breaking means the whole department is culpable

Looks like y'all need a new chief as well!

The officer committed a felony when he arrested these citizens under false pretents, and took their freedoms away...
The officer should be fired, and his certification of law enforcement be revoked permanently in all 50 states, then he should face 20 years in prison in my opinion.

Douglas County held me for a month without bail before the charge was dismissed with prejudice. Tyranny is common here in Colorado.

The worst part of this whole thing is that the chief knew there was an IA investigation into this cop at the time.

This cop should be charged with kidnapping and official misconduct IMO also deprivation of rights under color of law! Also he received a award for this because they compete for who can make the most DUI arrests against other dept!(grant money as well). He had the nerve to tell one of those men that he wasn't gonna play games, as he literally was playing a game /competition with ppls lives and liberty! Sickening! 😞😡

Awful. I feel for these victims. I don't understand why some are simply not held accountable for their actions. I can't imagine this person not getting fired in a different corporate like setting or most other jobs for that matter.

Every story like this turns the public away from the cops when justice is not followed.

There must be accountability and the chief of police along with the the DA. How is false reporting of a crime not a crime it is a class 3 misdemeanor in the state of Colorado but the moment someone is arrested or harmed in any way emotionally or physically this is elevated to a felony. #lackluster hopefully you se this

Just IMAGINE how many crooked cops who have NOT been caught are out there doing things just like this every moment of every day. Mind-boggling, isn't it? One of many reasons I will NEVER trust a cop.
I had one issue me a 250 ticket for pulling out of a driveway and nearly 'causing an accident' - mainly because as I pulled out, I looked both ways and proceeeded since traffic was two blocks away and moving slowly. There was a cop in my lane who then SPED UP to make it seem like I pulled onto the street without regard, claiming he could have collided with me had he not 'slammed on his brakes'. LIES. I challenged it in court and WON because the cop had no intention of showing up to defend that nonsense.

The officer and the chief are both a disgrace to law enforcement. The chief celebrated the officer by awarding him for all of his arrests.
The people that were arrested need to be fulfilled for all of their financial hardships. How can they possibly be guilty when both breath and blood yeasts were negative?
Seems that so many crooked cops are allowed to resign so they can take their criminal activities to another city and or enjoy a paid retirement.

I had this happen when I was 17 years old and again when I was 25 trying to become a Officer my own self.

This is why you NEVER, EVER perform roadside tricks. If they ask you to test, they have already made the choice to arrest you, there is no possible way at that point to talk/test yourself out of cuffs, they are asking you to give them evidence against yourself, and that "evidence" is completely their subjective opinion.
Ask "Am I being detained?" If yes, "I'm not going to answer any questions and do not consent to any searches, and STOP TALKING TO ANYONE BUT A LAWYER".
If no, you are not detained, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.

Cops who willfully falsify dui's should never have a career in law enforcement!!
Never again!!

This officer needs to loose his certification at a minimum. This is also a good example of when an employee performance is far outside those of other similar employees the employer should be looking closer at why this employees numbers are so good/bad.

One of the responses made by the reporter concerning the false arrests by the officer is that the officer didn't commit any crimes and can not be charged. The bottom most definition of criminal activity would be a person taking adverse aggressive action against someone or property with out having legal authority to do so. When a police officer steps outside the confines of the Constitution, they have done just that. By abusing his authority, the officer committed ILLEGAL confinement, ARMED kidnapping, Assault(by the mere act of placing the victims in handcuffs, Perjury by submitting a false police report ( a police report is a SWORN official document which makes it a crime to make false accusations). The DA would have a plethora of criminal charges unless he/she is willing to shield this officer from the actual law.

His National Law Enforcement Certificate should be revoked which would prevent him from hiring on to some other police force.

He resigned because he knows had he stayed on and gotten fired no other police department would hire him so what he's going to do is move to another city or state and become an officer there and it's probably going to continue as long as officers are never held accountable.

Locking people up and holding them hostage is undoubtedly a crime. Abuse of his position in LE is a crime. Officer Hafferman threatened me on my own property for recording. Criminal charges must be filed!
