Barberine literally changed my life. I had soooo much stress for so long I gained weight and became really insulin resistant. That being said, I don’t eat processed food so I was borderline when I got tested. I retested through Function Health and I was no longer pre diabetic. I find that it kills cravings and lets me manage the emotions around food by being able to separate the two. I have lost 15 pounds and am going to lose 100 more! I am sure I can do it now. So much easier to abstain from food now.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in February. My A1c was 11! The doctor wanted to put me on metformin but I said no. I told him I would rather do berberine and gymnema. The doctor reluctantly allowed me to go that direction but suggested I add alpha lipoic acid. I also reduced my sugar and carb intake. Four months later in June, my A1c dropped to 7.8! My glucose level dropped from 286 to 164 and is going lower. Will have new bloodwork done next month and am looking forward to even lower numbers.

I’ve been using Gymnema in my practice for 14 years. It’s my number 1 for controlling sugar cravings in my patients.

Metformin's main action is to reduce the liver's production of glucose, helping to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. By doing so, it helps prevent excessive glucose from entering the bloodstream when there is already sufficient glucose available from the food you've eaten.

I dont care what anyone says, I've eliminated 95 % of sugar and carbs. Im on a high protein diet and exercise daily .... On days that metformin dont hammer down my blood sugar, I take two of my berberine and it completely hammers down my blood sugar in about an hour. That stuff is amazing.

I've been supplementing my diet of water with steak, eggs, broccoli, squash, avocado and asparagus. Blood sugar is normal.

I started taking Berberine several months ago. It helped lower my blood sugar and it helped me to lose weight, but it caused me considerable stomach upset, gas, and bloating. Worst of all it is very constipating, making it nearly impossible for me to eliminate. I have not yet taken Gymnema, but my brother did. He didn`t tell his doctor, but he began taking it and GTF Chromium along with his diabetes meds. Over the months his sugars improved so much that his Dr took him off the meds because his diabetes had gone into remission. Gonna try the Gymnema, but no more Berberine for me.

I’ve been taking berberine and cinnamon for past 3 months . My non-fasting glucose was never double digits. For the last two weeks, I test twice a day and have averaged 84.

I’ve been using Gymnema since being diagnosed as diabetic this year. It’s been great. Along with a complete diet change my ac1 has come into normal levels in 6 months. No meds. Doctor was impressed.

Choline and Inositol (I purchase a brand that has both) have been found to be as good if not better than Metformin. I have gone from being pre-diabetic to normal in just a few months. Berberine is rough on the digestive system. Gymnema is intriguing. I'll bring it up to my NP.

Gymnema inodorum seems to be on sale, easy to find, but the effective one (apparently) is Gymnea sylvestre seems to be the one discussed here. I would grow it but at present the prices for plants or seeds seems to be outrageous.
Metformin not only does its job but also represses the production of other vital stuff, which is why some people have to consume Coq10 for instance.

You should also talk about Inositol. My nutrition advisor has suggested it as an alternative to Berberine. And it happens to be sweet to the taste and I think can even make a good sweetener.

Couldn't tolerate berberine AND metformin. Stopped metformin, kept going with dihydroberberine but added Myo- & D-chiro-inositol. Fasting sugar decreased from 8.2-8.5 before lunch and dinner to now only 6.3 - 6.5. All stomach problems disappeared when I stopped metformin. Tomorrow I have a large blood panel to look a HbAc1, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.

I had never heard of gymnema until I started watching this video. I just looked it up on line and getting it does not seem to be a problem. Furthermore it appears to be a lot cheaper than berberine (which tastes horrible but I have not tried gymnema yet and that might taste worse!)

Thanks TD! I hadn’t heard of GYMNEMA and feel like I’ve heard of everything. I take Berberine 2x a day 500mg each- can’t tell if it’s making an impact or not. Look forward to adding this.

I have been managing type 2 diabetes for 20 years. Eating healthier, walking everyday, tracking my steps which total 10, 000 steps about five miles. Yes, I take metformin, but the side effects can be uncomfortable. My main goal is to drop my weight, burn up some of that visceral fat. I'm 6'3 tall and currently weigh 230 lbs with a BFI of 29. I used to work my butt off at gym and could never get BFI lower than 22. So, I'm not overeating, but spacing my meals out, 2 per day, one at lunch and the other early evening. Yes, I've been reading about Berberine. Gonna check it out. I have reversed diabetes one time before and I know I can do it again. My Dr has reduced my metformin but hopefully I can get healthier and eventually get off metformin.

Dr. James Roberts did three two hour deep dives into Berberine, on his YouTube channel. I’m weird in my family, I’d rather watch six hours of biochemistry than the Super Bowl.
I’ve been taking Berberine with Amla for two years, all my markers are normal. I just added allulose as my sweetener.
