I love how Thomas asks a question and then just listens without interrupting! Too many people keep interjecting their own thoughts instead of what the guest has to say!
Excellent overview of Omega 3!

The key takeaways from the detailed summary are:

1. **Critical Role of Omega-3**: A Harvard study equates the life expectancy impact of omega-3 deficiency to smoking, emphasizing omega-3's importance in cardiovascular health and as a preventable cause of death.

2. **Omega-3 Index Importance**: The omega-3 index, reflecting long-term omega-3 status, is linked to cardiovascular mortality risk. Increasing omega-3 intake can improve this index and potentially extend life expectancy.

3. **Healthier Snack Options**: Thrive Market's low-sugar, keto-friendly truffles highlight a shift towards healthier, ethically sourced snack options.

4. **DHA and EPA Benefits**: These omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for cellular health, with DHA being particularly important for cell membrane fluidity, neurotransmission, and glucose transport.

5. **Exercise, Lactate, and BDNF**: Physical activity increases lactate production, which boosts BDNF levels, enhancing cognitive function, mental health, and muscle repair.

6. **Omega-3 Intake Necessity**: Adequate omega-3 intake is essential for various physiological processes, including fetal brain development and muscle health, yet is often lacking in the average diet.

7. **Omega-3 for Muscle Health and Injury Recovery**: Omega-3 has therapeutic potential in preventing muscle disuse atrophy and aiding recovery from traumatic brain injury by optimizing cellular energy use.

8. **Choosing Omega-3 Supplements**: For better bioavailability and effectiveness, omega-3 supplements in triglyceride form are recommended, with third-party testing ensuring quality.

I had my Omega-3 Index checked in Jan 2022, the one and only time. It was 11%, a level found only in the Japanese, Inuits. and Scandinavian populations. I have been supplementing with a combo of Fish oil, Krill oil and Cod liver oil and taking nearly 1500 mg of EPA+DHA. I credit that with improving my Insulin Sensitivity.
During the same time, my fasting Insulin came down from 11 to 6, with Fasting glucose remaining at 90.
My HOMA IR is now 1.3 down from 2.4. I am quite sure these are all different measures of the same health marker.
Also, I do not consume Omega 6 fatty acid except as a supplement as Hemp seed oil.

What was it 10 years ago when I weighed 230? I was never diagnosed as a diabetic because my HbA1c of 6.9.
I am glad I was not treated with metformin or exogenous insuin.
I shed weight by mereley changing my diet.
Now I am on a very low-carb diet with intermittent fasting.

I smoked all my life, tobacco and weed, also heroin and cocaine for nearly 30yrs, , I look 10 -20 yrs younger than most people I know my age, I'm 53 i go climbing with my grandson, walk dog at least 4 miles a day, i don't drive, i ride my bicycle all summer or if i need to go to town, , I've always ate healthy, avoiding processed foods, , , i take omega3 supplements, I go through at least half a kilo of cacao a month, , a lot of sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir, black beans, lentils and chickpeas, , lots of nuts and seeds, hemp, pumpkin, flax, chia... I'm not promoting drug use, far from it, addiction comes with a whole lot of negative issues regardless of health, , im just saying how important is, ,,eat healthy and exercise, and don't worry about anything...YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, SO EAT WHAT YOU ARE..🤸❤🙏

I was taking the "prescription" fish oil referred to here. The Ethel Ester that replaced the glycerin backbone have a horrendous side affect. Chest pains! I ended up hospitalized thinking I was having a heart attack! They took something that was just fine, tweaked it to call it a medicine and when taken reverts to the original form. Profit is a motivator

100% concur. My grandfather smoked filter-less camel cigarettes and did shots of whiskey as long as I can remember but took sardines and cod liver oil every night before bed. He is why I take Omega 3 fish oil now. He lived into his 80's.

Thank you for making some of these longer videos now and again. One of my favorite things to do is fall asleep to a good podcast or YouTube video on a topic of interest by someone who has a voice I can fall asleep to. I hope this doesn’t sound insulting because I don’t intend it to be. It’s actually a compliment. The right voice for helping me sleep can’t be too fast, too high-pitched, or too staccato and yours is nothing of the sort and hits all the right marks for helping me drift off to sleep. Upon waking, I either rewatch it or save it to watch it at a later time when I can listen to it fully and take notes.

I realize it takes a lot more time and effort to produce a longer video but I just wanted you to know that I, and likely many others, do appreciate it.

Thank you for doing what you do, Thomas.

I found this really interesting because I have had issues controlling my bp since my 3rd spinal cord surgery a year ago. I was put on a blood pressure medication which did not affect my blood pressure at all, they doubled it a few months later, still no change, put me on a water pill still no change several months later, and then finally wanted to put me on statins after a year of struggling to get my blood pressure to move. I refused the statin drug regimen and was told by my doctor I would never be able to get my blood pressure or my cholesterol levels normalized without medication. I left the doctors office that day with an “ I’ll show you!” attitude I came across some research about auto immune disease, which I also struggle with started a protocol of green smoothies with a quarter cup of flax/Chia added. Within four days I was completely off all medication and had a normal blood pressure again. I also went back to my whole food mostly plant-based diet. The only meat we eat is wild game that we hunt or fish for ourselves. Been doing this for the last two months and my blood pressure is still normal and I am a smoker. I’m really interested in what my blood work will look like when I go to get it done again next month. I truly believe that food is medicine and doctors are too focused on prescribing medications, and telling you what to avoid rather than trying to turn to more natural alternatives to get to the root of the problem. I would love to quit smoking, but it’s very difficult. I’ve been smoking since the age of 17 and I will be 52 in June, but it’s still on my list of things to better my health.

I use to have chest pain off and on. I started D3 and Fish oils and no chest pain for over a year now.

I’m a physician in Las Vegas, Nevada with a specialty in pulmonary medicine. I have been preaching the benefits of canned sardines for years.
Unfortunately, the resistance to actually consuming them is off the charts.
Hot sauce with balsamic vinegar, barbecue sauce, Siracha sauce alone, are all attempts at masking the flavor!
Patients just don’t like even the idea of sardines.
This video on the cardiovascular risk of smoking being essentially lessened by the addition of Omega 3 intake is extremely meaningful. Thank you for sharing this important discussion.

The reason studies show Omega 3 as being so helpful is that our food supply is drenched in omega 6, as are almost all study participants. When we eat animal-based and don't take in huge loads of linoleic acid, we no longer need to offset that by taking extra omega 3.

Algae EPA/DHA is the best source, especially grown in a lab - zero risk of heavy metal poisoning.

I have been smoking for 62 years, and I haven't been seeing problems ( serious problems) . During that time, i had not taken vitamins until recently, so I'll be 78 in October and started taking vitamins, but mostly Omega 3 and low and beholod in the span of a month or so, I started noticing my smoking or the want to smoke started to decrease, i wasn't trying to stop completely, but the cigarettes became less desirable, so I'm going to stop now because the desire to smoke is waning, but I just was watching your video and when you gave those stats, i wanted to tell you, probably just a coincidence but one never knows 😊

Makes so much sense. My grandpa was a heavy smoker but he ate a lot of fish every day. He passed away at 91 but my grandma passed away at 68 and she wasn’t a big fish eater. She passed away from heart disease. I need to get back to eating fish everyday.
