“We want every kid to be generous,” says Dr. Laura Markham, author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids. But, according to Markham, if we force kids to share, they’re less likely to do so again. How, then, can a parent raise a generous child?

In the latest episode of Home School, The Atlantic’s animated video series about parenting, Markham reveals the surprising childrearing method that promotes not only generosity, but also resiliency.

This is how I've raised my son so far. He is 6, chooses who he shares with, and is such a giving and sympathetic little guy.

Short, informative and just visually stunning.

I haven’t been fair to my elder one forcing him to give his toy to his younger brother just because he is the elder one. But I will for sure try this method

Why would the kid give up lunch time if they didnt want to share in the first place?

How about not forcing children to give up what they believe is theirs. Toys shouldn’t be collectively owned.

Yeah this crap might work if your kids argue about a toy truck, what if the desired item is far superior to any toy available? Like PC or PS4 or Tablet, i know id wait for that superior item forever if i was a kid

Just teach them to be rational, everything else like this will follow.
