If you soak the Chestnuts after cutting before the baking for 10 minutes in hot water the hairy skin will be real easy to peel off.

As someone who has a chestnut tree, I can't wait to try this recipe. I used to hate the spikey things but know I see them as a free gift from nature. **** If you are getting your chestnuts from nature, Please Please Please make sure they are Chinese chestnuts and NOT horse chestnuts. Horse chestnuts are TOXIC.

Cut a cross in the skin and put them into the microwave for 2 minutes. Works fine as well and really fast.
I love them, especially in winter, they might be a bit softer than in the oven but for me thats great too

Thanks Jamie! For the first time these turned out great. It's been a disaster in the past. You're right about the longer roast time. Did 30 minutes at 425 degrees and almost all of them turned out perfect.

We do roasted chestnuts in Portugal as a tradition, every year. We usually do the same in the video but put a couple handfulls of rock salt in tray with the chestnuts, add a couple grains of salt to the peeled chestnut, it's delicious!

I would love to make this. It's easy to buy roasted chestnuts around here but sometimes the chestnuts are old and very dry. So, the idea of roasting chestnuts myself is very intriguing.
