One of my favourite scenes in the book because Holden is very clearly lying. He says that war is a game that men should play but throughout the book he targets primarily women and children.

Maybe in this universe, the Judge really is the Demiurge, and he's kept all of humanity traped in his illusion by turning them all into Lego figures!

The musical stings when the Judge alters his gaze is great.

I've known people who would read/watch a scene like this and come out admiring Holden for his articulate and well-thought out points. "Look at them, unable to form a cogent argument against him. Truly this is an aspirational figure."

One might assume these people I've known to suffer from the affliction of hearing only what they want to hear, of having heard fancy words and calm discourse and ignored the content and meaning of our Judge's argument.

One would be wrong.

A distressing number of people in this day and age truly have a sickness in them, and Judge Holden is a perfect mirror to it.

This is crazy good. Certain, creeping, unavoidable dread, like waiting on an alien planet for an evil dawn, created with legos. Wonderful stuff.
