The battle is over, the Helldivers won. Sony seems to have back tracked and decided not to go forward with the required PSN update.

This victory is good. As it proves that if gamers just stop taking the shit from the big companies and tell them to stop their scummy tactics. that real change can happen. I hope this is a wake up call for gamers to actually start fighting back agiasn't these triple A studios and publishers. Hopefully, No longer will they stand for broken slop and excuses. We've been demoralized for too long and its time to show that the power is in the gamers. Helldivers 2 has been one of the best ways to show what the standard should be.

The pure fact that we've been adressed as "Helldivers fans" and not "Helldivers" in this post is a sentiment to how little they have understood this community, but I'm still glad they took that stuff back.

I would caution people to wait and see what Sony's next move is, they didn't technically say they will not be implementing the PSN requirement in the future, only that they are not rolling out the policy right now. Don't let up pressure on them till we get a concrete statement.

They only did it because the idea of losing revenue from 177 countries vs a 'fake growth' of subscribers for shareholders was deemed worse.

You should also thank Lord Gaben for allowing refunds. Sony didn't back-up necessarily because of the negative reviews. That's like 30%, of course, but the main reason was that they were losing money, and really fast.

They tried to fight a player base united in cause and hardend by war, a playerbase that acts like a mix between a hive mind and a professional military. We unquestionably follow orders with blind devotion, and have developed a whole culture surrounding this game. What the hell did they expect?

To be clear, Sony wasn't region-locking the game intentionally, they definitely want the whole planet on PSN if possible. The problem was a PSN account was impossible to create in certain countries for reasons mostly outside Sony's control, making their PSN requirement poorly thought out more than anything. Steam then independently decided to block sales of the game in those regions to protect consumers from buying something they couldn't play (common Valve W).
