My advice is always to keep the majority in ETFs that cover multiple sectors. Then have a couple stocks, as a small percentage, picked out that you feel personally attached to or interested in. That way you can mitigate a lot of the risk but also have a personal touch to your portfolio. I feel this mitigates some of the emotional downsides or disinterest people have with investing. Also helps with the urge to constantly buy/sell with fluxes in the market. Grateful i have an adviser at this point, major Thanks to Angela Lynn Schilling for getting me to a million

Dear professor, your videos are the clearest on the whole web, at least in my languages: Italian, French and English. Thanks to your teachings I found the confidence to invest my money independently (my banker, although not happy, shares the choice). My 3 ETFs are: SPY, VGT and CHDVD (in CHF living and earning in Switzerland). These options and real estate allow me to see my future with more optimism and no longer depend only on my (small) companies. Complimenti professore !!

I am 68 years old. I started investing in stocks in 2009. I became a widow and I found I needed income off of my investments. I bought munis that gave me 8 percent. I took some of this money and invested into stock market. Most munis have been called. What I have discovered through trial and error. Find good stocks and etf's and HOLD. I bought SPY 8 years ago and I bought SCHD three years ago. You are never too old to invest. Always pay yourself first.

Hello Professor, following you from Italy. Awesome work!
Would you consider advising on the best etfs combo for accumulation?
Thanks!

Very thought-provoking presentation that looks at and questions the assumptions underlying how and why individuals construct their portfolios.

You rocked this one Professor. That fund overlap tool is such a game changer - no need to have like 6 different ETFs!

Professor, can you make a video looking into starting with growth etf's like from start to 30 years and then selling and buying schd. Or just start with schd from the beginning.
I'm in doubt, which route to take. Should I start with schd from the start or start with vgt, qqq, xlk, then in 30 years, sell all my positions and buy schd
Currently I have 80k invested in schd, 200 aapl, and 100 jpm.
I want to sell aapl and jmp and buy either qqq or xlk and start selling cover calls against the position

Great info as usual.
I wonder what tool you would recommend us to analyze ETFs overlapping.
Thanks.

My 3 fund port is VTI/QQQM/SCHD. I DCA every single week into both my Roth and my taxable. Simple, stress free and automatic.

Awesome. Thanks for the explanations. I like Voo vug and schd. What r ur thoughts on adding a reit like vnq or schh I believe the overlap is zero if u think it is a good addition would u do 30% 30% 30% 10% reit or allocate a different way maybe with more out of one of the 3 areas thanks

professor g i have a question for you, ive learned that dividend payout lowers the share price of the fund/company because of the payout. should i include schd in a roth if i have drip on? or just worry about capital gains and focus on vti and qqqm?

have you changed your view on tactical bonds allocation since making that video? and do you have any reflections on optimal portfolio composition given bonds valuations? you think your 3-fund portfolio is going to have a better risk-adjusted return compared to the same portfolio with 10- or 20-yr Treasuries added to it?

Etfrc works for US funds but does not seems to work for any European funds ( at least I could not find any EU funds such as Amundi nor Lyxor)

Im wondering if I should cut VONG out of my portfolio. Theres 60% overlap by weight when comparing it to VOO. VONG expense ratio is .08% vs VOO .03%. VONG 10 year is 14.35% vs VOO 12.2%.
